Yep - on your OP I was loath to paste up the cold reality of Manchester Street and unless you were in the CBD the TV coverage does not show the reality of the destruction.

Oddly enough there will be weird little stories coming out of this and I'd like to smile about a unscratched bike tale!

Casbolts/Britten place.....News is almost all bikes are on side, staff did not re-enter the shop but some bikes out back were stood upright....includind my new MTS with only panier damage.

But I cannot get my hands on it in time for the TT2000...TE WAIPONAMU rentals to the rescue.....

My son is in the army and has been told to prepare to come down as they plan to have 1000 troops on the ground for many months. The media have been instructed to downplay the degree of devastation and a lot of places haven't been filmed or stories told because if the reality of how fucked up things are down here a lot of people would be devastated and morale would collapse.

I have been close to town in a hope of getting my bike out and it is incredible the degree of destruction. I can't believe we were so upset by Sept 4 - that was nothing compared to this.

want shrub says is true, I have been in some of the badly effected areas, helping out St John. the september one although bigger you could say was only the entree for this one

One street I went down was like riding a roller coaster and you could not see the tarseal, garndens, lawns etc for the sand left after liquid faction

The Britten is fine.

The S4Rs Tricolore has a slight scrape to the tricolore tail piece

The MTS has a dented Pannier...new and unused....And I did not get to see the bike before heading back to work.

But the 1098 Tricolore has a broken fairing and Fairing bracket when the mirror hit the ground....$$$$$$...buggar again

Yeah i took a look in there and my dad helped to remove the Britten which stayed upright and the ducati dominoes thankfully stopped 2 bike short! Had to pick up and move about 10 or so bikes in the way. Both the S4R and the 1098 were down although the 1098 was resting on the wall resulting in the damage mentioned.

The other Britten bikes were removed from their inner city location about a week ago by me and my dad. All 3 were on their side but amazingly the worst damage was to the 2nd prototype which had a broken clutch lever and bent handle bar. The V-1000 was completely unharmed amazingly, thanks to the rod that goes through the rear axle for the stand acting as a prop to keep it on the handle bar and prop, off all the shiny nice bits.

Of course the cops were all over us. We even got pulled over... So they could get a photo! Heres some photos from the rescue mission.

uhhhhh brittens on their side. Good thing they were designed to be bowling balls, not like production bikes. Its scary to think what could have happened to such rare pieces of history.

seems there is definatly a market for earthqauke proof motorcycle stands.
