Second-hand bike market?

some new bikes are also much cheaper now than they were a few years ago. That doesn't help. If you have a fairly new bike, it pays to check the current new price. Even with several aftermarket accessories, people still have to be swayed with a cheaper than new price.
Example. I sold an 07 Triumph America in mid 2009. I paid $17,290 new from memory. Now they're $14,990 new.

From what I see on trade me is that most people want the same price if not more than the dealers will sell them for.
Greedy bastards will sometimes sell, realistic priced unlikely to sell must be 15% cheaper than a dealer though,........ cheap will maybe scare people away
The trouble is Joe Bloggs can't always see a bargain. They think something is wrong if its cheap. Then tell you your greedy if its dear.
Had my old KDX200 for sale on TM for months, for $2K it was a bargain, excellent bike, no one wanted it, put the price up to $2500, sold it a week later for $2450, was I being a greedy bastard probably, go figure

The problem being (well one of them), is that everyone is now trying to get retail for their bikes via TM. Some (a lot then) more than! It doesn't work that way people.

Not to mention many bikes are pretty dam average, and more than a few are just overpriced rubbish, especially the dirt bikes. $2k for a 10 year old dirt bike, come on get real.

ive dropped my price by nearly $4,000, its now below market value....

I have toyed with the idea of selling my bike because ACC component in registration along with my other vehicles makes it too expensive for me now!

But I love bikes and especially the one I have now and do not really want to be "forced" to end my riding days prematurely just because of a lying bastard like Nick Smith!

If National want to introduce competition in the ACC field "OK", just do it and be honest about it but fucking around like Smith is doing fudging figures and lying about it, really pisses me off!

("NO", Labour or any other alternative government will not reduce the cost of ACC)

If I can not find a buyer for my bike I will put it on hold (2 months rego left) and store it for my grand-kids if they want it!

Meanwhile, if there is an 07 Triumph Tiger 955i (with a lot of extras) "enthusiast" out there, give me a PM.

when i brought he bike i paid $14,999 for it, today its not worth much over $10,000
on the show room floor.

some one will end up with a real tidy will priced adventure bike..

I think the numbers of bike/bits, shyt, everything else on trademe seem to be low volume at the moment. Partly the so called recession but I think plenty of spare cash has gone to CHCH earthquake appeals leaving people coin short for trademe or even other charity's who are starting to struggle.
