    What is it with Suzukis??

I wonder if others share this view?

Suzuki makes great bikes, often leading the way in performance and definitely (usually?) on price. But it seems to go all wrong when they apply the finishing touches -bodywork and the paint brush.

I was in Wellington MC yesterday and after having ridden a new Suzuki wandered into the clothing area. It wasn't until I'd been there a few minutes and been round the whole area I realised there was an 05 GSX R1000 in the middle of the place! I think that says all about the annonymous styling and, especially the paint.

When ever I see a ZX-10 or Yammi R1 I can help but notice them and admire the lines and the details. Suzie and, to a lesser extent Honda, seem to loose it with fussy and repetitive paint schemes. Most of the Suzuli sport bikes look almost the same (apart from the big-rear on the new 1000). I always stare more at Honda VTRs in their sparkly blue or glossy red paint than CBR 1000s, even though the VTR has been the same for years.

That's not to say Suzuki don't come up with the goods. I test rode a DRZ 400SM; an absolute hoot. Great gearbox, big, high sup eating, plenty of go (those who like to carve up the traffic would be right at home) and looks pretty indestruuctible.

Seems a bit weird asking SV 650 money for such a basic machine and makes you wonder if Suzuki are as committed to lower prices as they have been in the past (the new GSXR 1000 is also priced top-drawer). However, you'd be hard pressed to deny its a great bike and a good all rounder. Seat would be tough for touring, so its probably a better commuter and day fun bike.

I started a thread regarding the lackluster paintwork of the new gixxers a few weeks ago. They need a boot up the bum in that department.

Eye of the beholder and all that, but out of the big four Suzuki does sometimes lack in the design area. But thats not to say that they don't make brilliant bikes. At the end of the day however, we are all individuals and luckily enough for us there are a number of different designs and styling options available. Buy what you like.

Hey they sell by the bucket loads. Isn't that what counts? Maybe the fact that they look "boring" keeps the prices down....................

Suzuki seems to have always trailed a bit in the finishing Dep't but even so have always made darn good bikes that sell, sell, sell.
On the other hand,Honda make some really well finished, good looking bikes.
But they seem to be considered boring by some.
Good thing there's so many bikes an brands to choose from I guess.
We've never had it so good.

Some riders get a kick out of having a "boring" looking bike that can whip the ass off the posers

yip I know were ya comming from..... Manuboys new SV is in the garage and when I gave it a look over I found a few bolts lose or missing eg: reg/rec hanging by its wires.
30UTD rocked up on his new K4 the other day, and the bar end weight was hanging on by a single thread....... shocking for a brand new bikle.

Yes the reason is that Suzuki work on numbers not profit IIRC suzuki made less out of all the bike makers last year yet they sold the most bikes.

If it puts more riders on the roads, good on them.

If owners can't be fucked inspecting their own machines on a regular basis they should'nt be on a m/c as far as I'm concerned. Oh and have you informed Suzuki NZ of this problem so it can be rectified?

Are you saying that the owner of a new bike should inspect it before every ride.... the bloody thing had 60km on it FFS, thats crap what you say....... however yes older bikes do need attention, my bike is newish I do regular checks before a bigish ride.
I know people that love their bike and love riding but they are office workers and havent a clue what to do when it comes to mainance.... you say they shouldent be on a m/c???

No point in telling anyone about the loose items..... Suzuki through cheapish parts and dont locktight every thing..... well thats how I see it and that is what this thread is about..... cheap paint and a lack of tighting shit
    cheers DD
