Possibly what he means is, the fuel endurance is poor, the fuel economy is poor, they shit themselves if you fail to stroke them just right, parts are harder to get, only enthusiasts (you!) will work on them, they are not that flash to tour on unless you want to play a song on the gearbox all day.
Sure they are a blast, but modern 4 cyl bikes provide a far more consumer-oriented experience, particularly suitable for those who only want to ride and not fiddle with the bike.
