I've just got in and seen this....took awhile to get through the post and find out what happened, who it was and updates. Not good and I hope he pulls through - of all the guys here with a powerful bike he was the last I'd expect to get into trouble,he didn't seem like he pushed hard, loved and respected the bike too much.Take our strength mate,we have an endless supply for you.

Oh man oh man oh man... not what I wanted to see AT ALL when logging on to kiwibiker!

It always feels so bad only being able to go 'get better asap.. hope you are okay' etc when you really want to help directly somehow but can't

Well, at least while he is away in hospital he will have more time to talk with his family and be with everyone he loves while he improves - rock on dude and get better ASAP

I've been worrying about Dave since I heard yesterday afternoon. Going to pop down to the hospital this morning and try to see him if possible or at least get an update. Dave is a top bloke and I'm struggling to get my head around why this has happened to him.

    Arrow Latest Update on Stonechucker

    Hi All,
I spoke to Dave's Mum & Dad this morning and out of respect for them and Dave I'm not going to post the exact description of his injuries, however if you would like to know you can PM me.

He is having surgery this morning and the hospital said they don't know how long that will take.

Basically he has injuries that will require long term treatment but he's still with us which is fantastic!

Oh yeah - Dave's Mum also said it meant a lot to them to know that we were so supportive and caring about Dave b/c all their family are back in South Africa.

    Cheers All CSL

Devastating news of StoneChucker's crash. I have met him only a couple of times. Seems like a great guy. Very sad as well as thought provoking when a biker hits something and is badly hurt. I hope StoneChucker has a full and speedy recovery.

Really saddened to hear about this. Dave's a top guy and very safe rider.
Only way I can see something like this happening would be from mechanical failure or some momentary loss of attention due to tiredness. Plus that tractor on the bridge definately would have to be a contributing factor.

I've riden with Dave on a few occassions and he's always been very safe even to to point of looking out for me. On the way up to the Taupo Trackday he was pointing out crap on the road through the Para's. And when we rode home from the Rally at National Park I pulled over to zip up my wet weather gear and Dave immediately turned around and came back to see if I was ok.

Thanks for keeping us up to date on how he is Bruce you must be pretty shaken by whats happend.

    Update on Dave

Dave is currently in surgery. He's going to be in ICU for a few days at least so we won't be able to visit him just yet. His mum said he did make a cheeky comment this morning so that's good, but he's obviously very worried about his injuries long term. Please send him your best wishes. His parents need our support too, but his mum is pretty stoked at how many people out there care about Dave and are concerned about him. It might be an idea to keep phone calls to ICU to a minimum tho. If people are passing hospital tho, drop a card or note to reception to be sent up to him - I think the more the better to let him know that so many of us care. For those that can't - post your messages on KB and we can print them out and take to hospital.

When I first read this thread I didn't pay it alot of attention. But Frosty's thread alerted me to the fact Stonechucker had come to grief and by then this thread had estabished the Biker down was Dave.

Hope you have a short recovery Dave. Will get down to see you when your feeling a little better.

That would be great - thanks Cathy. Knowing how much people care has an amazing effect on healing. I've got a lot of time for Dave, and I'm going to let him know how much he means to me. Funny how something like this makes you realise how much of an impact someone has on your life and how much they mean to you.

Cath- you're a star (but we knew that).

Perhaps some of the 'get well' comments from the other thread could be added to this, or at least printed out also?
Really wish I was over there so I could go round and visit. I'm a bit concerned that Dave will get bored pretty quickly (between sponge baths!) so maybe we could send him some audio books or music on CD?
I still have my Wellington Library card, and I'm happy to send it to anyone who wants to use it to take stuff out for him to listen to.
In the meantime, thanks very much for all the updates, people.
