Yeah, but as rough as guts when warm. Any good mechanic should be able to pick it up. As mentioned by others the threads just may be naffed. Honda aluminium is notoriously cheese like

The early xr/xl/cb engines liked cracking between the plug and exhaust valves, usually caused by incorrect length plugs (too long).

I use good old D8EA plugs in the Nordie and the Mighty XR.
The thread just protudes into the head on the XR.
The barrel is off and being bored out at the moment and it would be a shame not to do some porting whilst the head is just sitting there.
I may try some of that there "velocity-porting" on the intake just for a bit of fun. Mmmmm metal epoxy....

Overtightening of the plugs was a major cause IIRC. Happened with early 4-valve GSX250s often as well. Talking to a mate who mentioned GB500 where prone too this too, but the 400s where'nt for some reason. Can anyone comfirm this?

Although don't feel quite so jubilant at the moment cos of wots happened to Stoney.
I'd say you celebrate your victories... then help Stoney celebrate his when the time comes...

Glad to hear Betty's good to go too... enjoy!
