    Desert Storm - October 2011

    Who's going?

We've a crew going up, it's gonna be awesome!
I'm quite stoked we get two cracks at it in one year! YAY!

It was bad enough last year with summer rain. would hate to see what it would be like in winter.

Hopefully it will be all good.

We've booked a lodge for a bunch of us, as I don't fancy alpine camping in winter just quietly LOL
But I think it should be mint with knowing we have hot showers to come back to at the end of the day hahaha

Hoping with a bit of wet it will be less dusty and I enjoyed last years in the rain.
I don't mind mud, is easier than dust! And in the forest bits it was pretty dry anyways.

Pack lotsa thermals and spare kit and you're good to go!

When desert storm started it was in the winter before it became to family based. Then it switched to summer. I went to one summer one and the dust was worse then any rain or snow! which we had in previous years. Bring on winter desert storm ill be there and there will be less injuries to because the speed will be slowed down. In the summer it was so bad! Speed and low visibility are the worst combination you could run up the back of some body so easily.

Its not to bad in the winter anyway the type of soil makes it nearly impossible to get stuck. As long as people ride with in there depth and don't do A loops when they really shouldn't.

Keen as for this! Gutted to miss Tussock so gotta get to this one.

Ye thought the rain made it last year, with a lot of the tracks being wide and fast having it slippery makes it more fun just trying to keep it straight

On the Sunday last year, I had a blast in the wet doing heaps of loops of the mid track.
It was soooooo fast, cause you could literally rail the corners in the ruts and it was wickedly fun.
I came off once and hit a tree... but it was still fun... LOL

I'm looking forward to it! Rain or sun it can't be worse than the dust in January, or the wet and freezing of Tussock Buster last weekend hahaha

Yep the dust this year was shocking.
I have hours of camera footage of just looking at dust, no point in even editing it.

if the tracks hold together like pumice blast it should be alright but last year they closed some of it before midday. No point holding it in winter just to close the tracks if it gets a bit wet.

i had ablast last time in the rain, it was more of a slosh than a slippery mess, way easier to ride than wet clay, i rather a bit of wet than dangerous dust
