Bikers don't like cops stopping them for no reason doncha know?? Apparently it's not fair.
But maybe they had to wait until they got a response for their plate check?
Or maybe they didn't get a chance to read the plate until they got to the thievin' gits home?
Does it matter??![]()

Yup, so I've got her back in my garage.
The bike is a lot worse for wear. Asides from the ignition, tank cap and steering lock which are all stripped it's clearly been outside since march and laid down at least once at some point. new tank dents. the brakes are in need of some love and the chain/sprockets definitely need a change. mega tight/loose spots. She's still going though. I rode it back from hamilton to auckland on New Years eve. Rode just like I remembered! Just a bit more clanky...
my bar end mirrors were gone. as were all the panniers and pouches. Probably about 1000-1500km more on the clock. Not sure exactly.
I had to drive to hamilton and pay $200 just to get it out of the towing place. I had to convince the dude to open it on new years eve for me as if i'd left it longer he was going to charge me $70 a day of storage costs until he opened on Wed.
The police have been super helpful. I've spoken to the officer involved a few times. The first time he called me I actually had to pinch myself to see if it was a dream. haha. He called at like 11pm and I was drinking.
Apparently he saw at least three bikes messing around on a back industrial road in hamilton that never usually has traffic. He approached them with sirens off and all three bikes split. He followed my bike (probably the slowest haha) to a residence where the rider was cooperative and admitted to buying my bike for $200 from a 'friend' who rode it down from auckland a month ago. It's been stolen since March!! The details the guy gave the police of who he bought it off were bogus. But he is being charged with posession of stolen vehicle...or something. The police man will keep me posted with how things go.
he called me today to take a kind of statement and ask about how the loss has impacted me etc.
I havent had a bike all this time. I struggled to get wifey to let me have this one....and it wasn't insured!
Seems as though the police might be able to get me some kind of reparation. So I'm keeping track of what I spend to get her roadworthy! Off to CycleTreads tomorrow morning I guess (unless you all have a better suggestion of where to take it?). In addition to the standard servicy things and new mirrors and stuff I'm thinking about ditching those horrible magna pipes once and for all!
Oh, and did I mention that I got pulled over by a highway patrol on the ride home!? haha. He says he pulled me over because the bike sounded loud as I putted past (I was pretty much flooring it the whole way). I was riding without WOF or rego and he explained to me I shouldve had a $1000 fine....but he was sympathetic to my story and let me limp on home with my recovered bike! I think I had him once i told him it had been lost since MARCH...and they were going to charge me almost as much as the bike cost to keep in in the storgae place!
Every cop I 've spoken to in the past few days has been astonished I've got it back after this much time. Apparently that like never happens.
Basically, I'm stoked. I know she's just a little 250. But I live in the city and she's pretty much my dream machine for a big dude around town :-)
Accepting all advice on how to pimp and improve it now i've got it back!
Alex
