2011 Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge race

Is anyone following the Rally raid calendar/results this year?

The Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge is on this week, see website for details
    http://abudhabidesertchallenge.com/j...enge/main.jart

Nothing on TV that I can find, so am just getting news updates really.

Marc Coma has won stages 1 and 3, but on Stage 2 he got his arse wiped by a 21 yr old Briton who resides in Dubai.
Sam Sunderland is the youngest rider to win a desert stage, beating Coma by 13mins over the 413km stage. Local knowledge must be a bit of an advantage with navigation, but still a great effort to beat the likes of Marc Coma, Helder Rodrigues, and David Fretigne amongst others.
Unfortunately his KTM 450 cooked itself on Day 3, and spewed out all of its vital fluids to give him a stage DNF, but he has restarted stage 4.

Anyone heard of Kiwis Stephen Collie (currently 20th) or Richard Brewer (28th)?
John Bouwknegt (Jaybo on ADVrider) is still out there in 59th posn but no details of what his problems may have been, as he's been given massive time penalties.

Check this out, Sam Sunderland showing off

Has racing underground gone legit? I went there tonight to try and find footage of this and the site wasn't what I expected.

Never mind, missed a - from the URL.

Jaybo through checkpoint 1 but no more?
Either stuffed up or an Iritrack issue.

Looks like Jaybo ended leg 4 with around 344 hrs of penalties.

He's got some work to do to catch up now...

It sounds like Jaybo banged up his knee somewhere on Stage 2 and had to withdraw from the next couple of stages.

He was hoping to ride last day of the rally, which the Desert Challenge rules allow, if you DNF a stage you can rejoin the race at a later stage, just copping the time penalties, unlike the Dakar rules.
