Oh dear, the route they have indicated is not the Coro Loop

A little irresposible enticing all and sundry for a 'ride around the loop' without any safe guards etc.

    Not a good start eh

Must admit, I did think that myself. I thought the 'official' loop was Kopu, over the range, north through Tairua, across at Corromandel Town and back down the coast road to Thames. I've only ever gone as far as Tairua (cos the inlaws live there and they have fridges full of piss) but other riders I have spoken to over the year have said that's the route of choice.

I suppose the route they are proposing is a loop around the Coromandel so it depends how picky people want to get.

At least they didnt show us a map of the South Island, eh....

Lol. First swing by Moto NZ, first miss.

And if we're taliking the real Coro' loop, there's nothing wrong with it. Except for the fact it's two way traffic and treated as a racetrack by some.

Good to see MOTO NZ getting bikers involved, hope its a good and hassle free turnout for you.

The one thing the nitpickerer in me noticed on the flyer was the pillion position, I always thought it was best practice for them to sight down the inside of the riders helmet.

Thats the half loop, the other half loop is the top half loop and combine the two you have the full loop, not to be confused with the figure 8 loop which is both the top and bottom half loop but in a figure of 8 loop. Easy peasy.

Then there is doing the 'loop' twice otherwise known as loop da loop

I've never ridden it so no idea myself (being a lowly Wellingtonian and all)

Wonder if I bring my gear with me if I can find me a rider to pillion with, none of my bikes are on the road at this point of time damnit!
    Just ride.

The weather affected attendance, it is true but a few hardy souls braved the ride and came to eat our food

Highlight for me was meeting the Aussie roading engineers that do the improvement work on Vic's black routes
These guys are pretty cool, NZ road makers need to learn a lot from them, some very easy cheap fixes to common issues out there
    Just ride.

    Maybe not

    From www.motonz.org.nz website

"With the advent of MOTO NZ, a collaboration took shape. This was just the sort of project where motorcyclists’ views would be valuable. So we began work with NZTA and the outcome involves direct large-scale rider input on the loop connecting Paeroa, Waihi, Whangamata, Hikuwai and Kopu around the Coromandel."
"This loop is a popular one for riding motorcycles. Unfortunately, its 130km of road have seen 23 riders seriously injured and seven killed in the last ten years. Nearly all the serious crashes have happened on just 36km of the loop."

regardless of how many guys/girls have been injured/died on the whangamata/kopu/paeroa loop (the petite loop), as far as i have always known and considered, the Coro Loop goes thru Whitianga/Coromandel.

It's a bit like saying - lets do the The Paihiatua Track, and riding thru the Manawatu Gorge - it's close, but not actually it.
