If a cyclist was coming up undertaking you would you notice and would you still flash traffic through.
The car that moved through on your flashing headlights still has to give way to all oncoming traffic or am I missing something
Actually, it would be just as illegal for a pushbike to be over(under)taking in the same fashion.

I must have missed this point I thought you could undertake if the traffic is stopped

But anyway my point is still valid. I dont know why people think that if someone is doing something illegal on the road and a accident happens that it is is automatically there fault.

I know If I waved through traffic in that fashion and a kid on pushbike was killed because I didnt see it I would feel pretty guilty (although it wouldnt legally be my fault)

As a cyclist i undertake cars all the time. Never on a motorcycle. If someone in a line of stationary cars waves someone through i stop and let them through. Undertaking on a bicycle is not illegal. Do you really expect a cyclist to stop at the end of a long queue and wait for the cars to start moving?

I think you will find it is, and they should be passing on the right hand side like any other vehicle. The only exception is where there is a cycle lane.

This, of course doesn't happen in the real world.

(I am happy to be proved wrong if that is the case.)

What gets me is the likes of "group rides" and "Poker runs" are often organised by so called "Pillars of the motorcycle community" both local and nationwide for some good cause or another who before setting off wank on about "its not a race blah blah blah "but after the second pub (jesus that's only 2 pints) the dickheads emerge, generally the recipe involves lashings of 1200 Sports resplendent with booze hag on the back, chuck in a trike or 2 not forgetting the 9 year old on the back (you could be forgiven for thinking hes the one at the helm) and bingo its disaster at every blind corner,or in layman's terms pull hard to the left so the cock on the Sporty is able to get out of the way of oncoming car.

And actually, I never said that traffic was stationary only that a queue was forming.

Traffic was still moving, just slowly.

We witnessed some unbelievable fucked up passing skills (if you can call it that) on SH16 yesterday.
Its no wonder some bikers die out there and on occassion take others with them.
One of our group had a bike overtake him while at the same time his dropkick mate on a ducati decided he was 'fucked in the head' enough to undertake him.
Imagine the brainsqueeze that would give you!
Good skills that our group rider held his line and not get spooked by the whole wank fest.
Passing on blind corners also, what sort of screwed mindset are some bikers riding under?
I have of late seen some absolute crap riding and driving, didnt post anything about it as it is just more winging, but I have to agree with you, we are sitting here winging about ACC cost, yet in front of our very eyes are the reasons why. Some bikers are embarressing us all, I am trying to be a safer and better rider, and shit like this really pisses me off, ...well said Mark, and about time we as bikers confront the very riders that are doing us no favours.

People pass right turning stationary and near stationary vehicles on the left all the time, its not illegal but you better be alert when you go about it.

I was found at fault when a line of near stationary oncoming traffic created a gap for me to turn right into a sidestreet and I was hit head on by car undertaking the line of traffic.
Police stated the rule was simple: All right turning traffic shall give way to straight ahead traffic.

    Check your road code...
It is legal to pass stationary traffic within their same lane and on their left.

    Then it is illegal.

The one exception is if the vehicle being undertaken is indicating to turn right.

Of course, the onus is always on the one doing the passing to ensure it is a safe manoeuvre
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Haha, I had cycled round that Akatarawa loop, passing a few cars that were banked up at the Waikanae lights on the inside and got taken out in exactly this manner.

So yeah, prolly not a good way to pass cars, even on a pushbike!

Yes Roger, I would hate to turn into some whinging wine bag (some would say too late )....but it crossed my mind, how would the ducati owner get on with a metal spike in his rear tyre wall?...
I always read what bikers would like to do to car drivers that piss them off, cuts both way in the real world.
