I agree that many bikers get into groups, their riding manners go out window, or should I say the exhaust.
Its pack mentality, happens all the time.
..........I must keep up with my mates, I cant be left behind, I cant let my mate overtake me because my bikes better, and if he overtakes me then I guess hes a better rider.........all that competitive stuff.
I know because I have been in that position and have seen my normally placid riding buddies riding like idiots as soon as they get in a big group.
You really have to have common sense and be your own person to be able to say, f--- it I am riding at my pace, not theirs, and stick to your "mind frame"
Some of your mates may not talk to you at the next stop, because they think your a sensible slow wanker, hey, but your still alive, and have probably seen some of the views along the way, not just the white line.
A few months back I was passed on my BMW by 30-40 Harley riders ( not picking on the Harley guys), but to me some of them group were sensible riders others were just wankers overtaking on blind corners and all. I could see the pack mentality thing going on. I had to pinch my self from speeding up and passing some of them. I too have ridden with sports bike riders and seen the same stupid behavior going on.
I urge pack riders to do their OWN THING on an outing, (very hard to do, I know)
But if you try real hard you can do it, you may even influence some others in the group to slow down and help them see another day of riding, "and seeing" this beautiful country we call NZ..
