GSXR1000 modification?

so i heard about a replacement wire that is suposed to trick ecu (on gsxr-1000's) into thinkin the bike is in 5th gear all the time as this is the where the bike is least restricted. therefore giving greater power in all other gears?

any1 got 1 of these or tried 1?
ive seen them on trademe but are they just rubbish or do the make a noticeable difference?

a T.R.E. (timing retarder eliminator). I have tried one in my K7. I thought it made a difference. Made it a bit peakier in the lower gears.

If you buy one, bear in mind it is a resistor worth 1/10th of sweet f all and maybe a connector or two if you are lucky.

yeah itd just be nice to hear of some proof from a before and after dyno run or something, and if there have been any adverse effects from doing this mod

Done it on my bike, to be honest didn't notice a great deal of difference as it is not very often you can fully tap one of these things out in the lower gears without losing your licence on the road. Didn't do any harm though. With the addition of a simple switch you can turn it on and off to compare.

Google has lots of hits from various forums (including KB).

The short of it:

- it won't harm the bike
- it may or may not make a noticible power difference, depends on your bike state of tune, how you ride, all those other factors
- you may or may not see it on the dyno, it'd be hard to get 2 dyno runs to agree within the small power gain you expect from this mod just from temperature and time of day you run the dyno
- OAB has a good point - put a switch in and you can turn it on and off for yourself and see.

Yup that pretty much nails it on the head. My thou would want to flip in the first two gears as it was without the tre, but the response did seem sharper after fitting it.

Go the pc3/yoshi ems and dyno tune route. Best $1000 I spent in terms of improving engine performance ever. However the $2k I spent on suspension work was worth it even more. Even the $800 I spent on improving the brakes was more worth it. I use the handling and brakes every ride on my bike, I don't use 160rwhp every day (although I wish we could).

Just use WOT, TRE doesn't do anything at WOT as the ECU doesn't retard the timing when you're using it.

What he said, the retard is only at partial throttle. You will notice the difference, but it gains no more than turning the throttle further....

oh ok, cause the onli reason id want to do it is to lower times at mere mere. but if im getting full blast already it wont make any difference at all. sweet cheers 4 the responses guys.
