I know a Triumph wrecker now![]()
SHAME ON YOU TRIUMPH MOTORCYCLES LIMITED!!!!
"As previously advised Triumph Motorcycles Limited in the UK have again reviewed your goodwill claim. They advise that their original decision stands, and that this is not something they will cover."
And I stupidly thought that with the letter I wrote (below), they might have reconsidered... what a silly, silly girl!
I am writing in regards to a “goodwill” claim that was lodged via email on the 8th April 2011 to Mark Jarvis, your Warranty & Technical Support person. That claim originated from Bayride Motorcycles in Tauranga New Zealand, who assessed the motorcycle and then lodged a claim with Triumph New Zealand.
In an email dated 8th April 2011, at 8:20pm NZ time, Mark Jarvis stated the following….
“The fact that the bike is clearly out of warranty and the customer has been servicing his own bike we would not offer any goodwill cover for this repair.”
During it’s warranty it was serviced by authorised Triumph agents as specified in the Terms & Conditions. Yes, the motorcycle is out of its warranty period now. My partner and his friend (an ex-Triumph mechanic) conducted the 20,000kms service.
However my beloved Triumph is less than 4 years old, with a mere 28,000kms on the speedometer. My partner services my Triumph and is very competent in his capabilities and this is backed up further by other riders who seek him out for advice and servicing on their motorcycles.
Who conducted the 20,000kms service, I believe, is a moot point, as there are no service procedures in place to check the bottom end, and certainly none that would pick up a failure that was going to occur 8000kms later. The Number 2 big end bearing failed due to either a flaw or incorrect assembly. This then picked up on the Crank, and proceeded to reek havoc with the Conrod. The Conrod snapped on the big-end and proceeded to smash its way through various parts of the engine case. Meanwhile half a Piston and the rest of the Conrod took it upon themselves to destroy the Head, Valves, and Liners.
Given that diagnostics show no faults due to lack of oil/oil pressure, there is no other cause for the bearing to fail which then points to a flaw or incorrect assembly. The rest of the bottom end is in perfect condition. There is no way that this failure could be diagnosed in the 20,000kms service carried out as per the Service Specifications within the Triumph Manual.
Triumph Motorcycles is a highly respected brand and I am very proud and consider myself extremely fortunate to own a Triumph motorcycle. Everywhere I ride my Speed Triple turns heads, everywhere I stop my Speed Triple draws a crowd. And I would love to continue this love affair with my Speed Triple.
It breaks my heart at the lack of support I have received thus far from Triumph. For such a young, well maintained motor this just should not have happened.
As you say so yourself…..
“We’re proud of the bikes we build, the materials we use and the people who turn our dreams into reality”
Please do me proud, and re-consider this application.
Kind regards
Tina Stirton

No body move... I dropped my brain
That's a shocker.
What about at least offering you a cheap or at cost engine? Ok - so they won't replace at their cost under goodwill - but how about coming to the party at least some way?
