    Attempted VTR250 theft

    Hi guys,

So some arsehole tried to nick my vtr from outside my house on sunday night, and whilst they failed, they did manage to completely screw the ignition barrel. I've had a nightmare trying to find parts on the internet as they dont sell the vtr in the states or UK, so was wondering if anyone out there knew where to get a new set of three (ignition, fuel tank and seat lock), as I've been told it will be over $1000 to go through cyclespot honda.

    Cheers

Replace the ignition barrel with an accessory one. Have 2 keys, one for the ignition one for the gas tank etc. I had two keys for my Radian, I coped

Or you could try the local wreckers. They should have spare parts. I think one size fits all applies for all years of that particular bike. Not sure though. Ask around

youll find that it probably doesnt have to be model specific. theres a lot of bike wreckers out there, so look into a second hand set.

alternatively, usually locksiths/ auto sparkies can arrange to build a new lock if you have the key you want to use, so look into locksmiths etc for getting the ignition barrel rebuilt

    Someone comment on this.

If the barrel etc isnt bike specific then this would probably do the trick, im sure someone will say yes or no.

Otherwise, here is a used one, comes with the seat lock too http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/89-vt...#ht_797wt_1165

Ahahahahahaha Last one is a keeper, and the second last one would be good, at least they wouldnt smash your ignition barrel again

Or you could bypass the key ignition and not have to worry about it again (as I assume Spearfish was getting at). As long as it would be OK to pass your WOF... I don't know if it would be a problem. Basically it would be a push button start, but you would have to have certain buttons and switches in an exact position in order to start it. The other problem with this would be that people might think you are riding a stolen bike. so.... some advantages some disadvantages.

I presume you are not insured or the excess is high. Even if you don't have first party cover (ie. comprehensive) - see if your policy covers you under third party, fire and theft - as it was attempted.... not sure if the damage is covered, or whether the bike has to actually be illegally removed from your possession to count as theft.
