Throttle cable snapped!

........ if the engine speeds up while you are turning the bars, you have tightened it up too much. Ive seen poeple do this before and may have contributed to the cable snapping.

I did noticed the revs go up when I turned the bars to get out of the drive way, just didnt put 2 and 2 together doh

I ordered a new throttle cable today from wgtn motorcycle and it should be here overnight, so this time Im gonna do it right.!!!
Got some drag bars today too, which look mean and hopefully relieve some of my back ache being scrunched between the stock bar and pillion seat

rather than carry a spare cable a length of the orange electrical strip connector is a good item
can be used for electrics but also when attached to a broken cable it is like a t-bar/lawnmower starter and will also do the job.
Then you can use it for clutch and /or throttle cable...
sometimes if the bottom end is snapped you can gut out one of the connector brass bits and use it too

When adjusting throttle cables etc it isn't as important to get rid of the free play as it is to ensure it reaches full throttle If the throttle was reaching the stops before you removed the free play, when you held the mighty beast (are you allowed to call GNs beasts) on full throttle you are placing extra stress on the cable and it can break
Not saying anything but it might pay to check

After the success of cleaning my carb and filter, raising Angies (GN250) speed from 80km to 115km I thought Id do some fine turning, my throttle had a little too much play, so I tightened her up..........throttle cable snapped on the motorway out of wellington. so after after pulling over and thinking "what the f@#* am I’m gonna do this far from home" I was able to find the break luckily at the end by the throttle, and use some pliers as a make shift throttle, now I have a dead hand and another bike story. lol

Seriously, I just had to laugh when I read throttle cable snapped, but I remember running up the Bombays with my throttle open to the max just to keep 100kph with the wind behind me!

I snapped my odo cable 3 times, blew the baffle out my arse end coming over the Bombays (what is it with that bloody hill), and had my speedo cable disconnect once while getting on the motorway.

Still I loved that little bike. Will always have a soft spot for the little workhorse known as the ginny.

I've currently tightened my back brake a bit too much. Damn thing went and snapped last night.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, I had a Zuki with a twin wire throttle - one to open, one to close the butterflies. Had a nasty moment when the closing cable broke...

Shouldn't do. The slides/butterflies close themselves, the 'closing' throttle cable was only there to manually over ride the slides/butterflies if they got stuck open. Also, if the 'opening' throttle cable ever snapped, you could switch over the 'closing' throttle cable to get your self home.

Had the same issue 2am last Saturday. I usually carry a back pack with flatnose plies, brake cable, spark plugs, some screwdrivers and vice grips. Still trying to figure out why i thought that i wont need it this time. Held it with my fingers and now the gloves are history....
