Thumbs up Top speed was 80km/h, now 115km/h - yes!

Angie, my GN250s top speed on the straight was 80km, Shes 26years olds, and I know that Im only suspose to go 70km/hr on my learners but I actually felt unsafe going that slow in traffic. So after follwing some advice from this site, Cleaning the fuel filter element and carb now im up to up to 115km yes sir and shes much more zippy now. I feel kind of like a doctor whos save a patient from certain death!!

Its kind of funny that the guy I brought this bike from on trade me said the battery was new and the carb had been cleaned, when the battery was fcuk and carb was in dire need of a proper clean lol.
I do like that its forced me to take angie to bits and operate on her, great learning curce

That's awesome. Would give you a sense of great self satisfaction improving a vehicles power and top speed by yourself.

The 70km/h max rule is ridiculous. I think I couldn't stay below 70 after about a week on my bike once I got used to the speed. Now it's hard to hold myself back, don't think I've been out once for a ride without getting her speed quite up there, gets a bit... addictive. Worried what might happen when I upgrade to a 600 lol So the restrictions of a 250 can be useful.

You will have a great time with Angie No doubt you will out grow her soon enough, but in the meantime enjoy. Good bike to learn stuff on, nice and simple fuel supply, one carb, one cylinder, no frills. You have spokes too, they are special and a dying art to care for.

I sold these bikes when they were first released in NZ, so nice to hear of one still being used. There is one up here in town that I actually sold to the same dude that is still riding her

    An illegal 7th wonder, granted.
Some people just can't seem to comprehend that they do not have the right to be unoffended in their lives.

To be safe on a GN at that speed you should wear lead weights and a diving helmet.

I have an 87' GN250. Bought it off Tardme after we got someone experienced to ride it. I think I have done around 2000ks since I bought it. And there's been no problems with it whatsoever. (Except regular Maintenance and a flat front while it was in the shed) Even when its just ticked over the half century

The originals were a far better bike than the cheap ones available nowadays

If you're only supposed to do 70 and get caught doing 115 on the open road, are you charged with exceeding 'the' speed limit by 45kph?

Nope but if the Officer is feeling nice, You'll get a ticket for exceeding license conditions as well as one for exceeding the speed limit.

I feel unsafe doing 70km on the motorway, and if we are suppose to do 100km in our restricted test, how do we practice for that?

I love that Angie needs work done to bring her back to glory, Im learning a lot
