    help from ZX-7R rider/owners

    hey guys n girls,
got my heart seat on one of these mighty beasts. Looking for a post 97 one pref 98 or 99 model. Have three im looking at atm on tradme, two with 20k one on 40k. I've heard their engines are pretty much bullet proof - seen the article when they tried to kill one and failed. What i want to know is what are they like handling wise... i know it does 0-100 in around 3.2s so its quick for its weight. I have been riding a ZXR250 and i weigh in at around 100kg... do you think its a good step and a good bike for me?

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

    good choice!
i have owned my 7R for 2 years in november and loved it.
great bike for trackdays and even dosile enough to ride long dist, as i have taken mine down from hamilton to welly many times.
only negitives i can see is that they are heavy compared with other bikes of its time and they (when ridden in anger) can suck up the gas pretty quick.

my one is a '93 but there is very little difference between mine and what your looking for. infact mine has a few things that the later models don't like, adjustible swingarms and the suspsension is more adjustible (but only good if you know excatly what your doing) but lastly mine has an alloy tank which no other models seem to have (as far as my understanding, maybe wrong).

if your keen mine is for sale after i fix it up as i had a bit of an off the other week. i am not very interested in a large sum of money and when its fixed it will be in very good condition. if your interested PM me and we might be able to sort something out.

    Cheers
yeah... sorry bro, i thought that ment miles 'n hour.

Just buy one Gareth, if you need a hand looking at one, or want someone to test ride it, let me know, more than happy to help out. Almost brought a 98 ZX7R when i got my 2nd TL1000S, only it wasn't an SP and was a bit rough round the edges. I love these bikes to bits and i reckon they are still one of the more horny looking bikes out there, dont let the weight put you off, it makes up for it with top notch handling, one of the (and still is) best front ends out there, still more than fast enough to keep most newer bikes in sight on the road, and did i mention they look the bizzo.
You'll find it sweet to jump upto the bigger cc, easy to ride as long as you dont get to ahead of yourself and take your time on it.

    Yeah buy one.

I Had one B4 the R1, good bikes but i wouldnt say they are bullet proof, mine dropped a valve, then i had majour issues with the electrics, but thats just me...they are heavy old girls not the best for wheelies but they have the most stable front end i have ever come accross, they look cool, and they are more than capable of keeping up with a 1000 in the right hands, and they seem to hold a good price....so if thats what ya hearts set on buy it...just make sure ya do valve clearences every 10,000k's and keed on top of servicing...

Timeless styling, stable as a brick shithouse and they love trackdays and are very thrashable. I had a p1(96) for a year or so. Very cool bike.

The only problem i have had is a slipping
clutch, they survive being dropped well
I still get better corner speed on the ZXR750
(than the ZX10R) cause the front just feels more
planted, and the back wheel is not busy trying
    to over take the front
    for what its worth
