What intrigues me is how the media have generally sided with the Kiwi incarcerated by the Argentinians. They are creating an picture that this woman is some sort of innocent, misguided and naive, perhaps even gormless.
The information we've been given doesn't really support that.
Flew to London via Buenos Aires rather than via the original route.
Had a stop over there allegedly to pick up documents. Indeed an eight day stopover.
Where were these documents? Shouldn't the absence of these, given their importance to this whole scenario been a cause for concern?
She abandoned the luggage she arrived in BA with and left with her possessions stowed in one suitcase, a suitcase that was already 5kg heavier than a suitcase should reasonably be expected to weigh.
She completed a departure card from Argentina that said she had packed the suitcase herself.
Something clearly spooked the Argentinian officials -- how many people get their baggage checked when exiting a country?
Why was she in possession of four Driver Licenses? (Country of issue not yet revealed)
This is why I question the credulity of this busted former public servant. She was knowingly taking some big risks. What was in it for her?
Presumably all of this will be revealed at her trial.
I suspect her Spanish will improve and her body mass will diminish appreciably in the time she can expect to stay as a guest of the Republic of Argentina.
