Thanks for a great weekend guys and girls.
Always great to ride around the coromandel and I thoroughly enjoyed the muddy struggle to the goldmine and back.
great to meet lots of new faces too

The joys of doing an Adventure Ride on a new bike build without having had a chance to test ride it first and iron out all the bugs.
So in no particular order:
A brand new 90 degree fuel filter that didn't seem to be flowing properly, combined with a very minor leak from one of the hose clamps onto the filter. Remedied on the way to the start line by ripping off the entire fuel line and replacing it with the fuel line from my old DR that I had fortunately had a bit of last minute foresight before leaving Wellington and had scavenged off the old bike and thrown into my topbox.
Incorrect air/fuel setups meant the bike ran fine at very low revs, and at full throttle, but couldn't pull the skim of the top of a cold porridge anywhere in between. It couldn't climb any hill and keep speed up and wouldn't run smoothly. This combined with the fuel filter meant at one stage the bike would barely do over 70km/h.
Basically the bike was getting too much air for the carb setup. I'd had to refit the stock carb with stock jetting after finding leaks in my FCR when I went to install it. This was mostly remedied by a roll of insulation tape from the gas station in Coromandel and some cardboard from the Whitianga Hotel, which were used to tape up 75% of the airbox opening on Saturday evening. Not perfect but good enough to carry on with.
And the best one:
An adjuster nut coming loose on the accelerator tension adjuster on the carb, sliding down the accelerator cable and jamming the cable at full throttle, seconds before peeling into a 90 degree 50km/h corner.
Remedied by slapping the builder about the head for slackness and making sure the nut is done up DAMN tight.
