Welcome to the May 2011 edition of the BRONZ Auckland newsletter.
With winter now upon us it is time to wrap up warm and brush up on those wet weather riding skills. For those looking to escape the cold, a motorcycle trip to the Himalayas is always an option Read On and Ride Safe!
BRONZ Meeting
The next BRONZ meeting will take place on Wednesday May 18th at 7.30pm at Danish House, Rockridge Ave, Penrose.
Meetings usually take place once a month, on the third Wednesday of the month. We would love to see some fresh faces at our first meeting for 2011 so if you wish to contribute please come along.
Wellington Free Parking Petition
Thanks to all those members who put their names to the petition to keep motorcycle parking in Wellington free. Simon Gotlieb from BRONZ Wellington presented the petition with over 4000 signatures at a Wellington City Council meeting on May 12, taking the council by surprise by using their own words to support his argument that motorcycles are not park of the traffic problem, but part of the solution. The next council meeting regarding this matter will take place in August. We will keep you posted on developments.
MotoNZ
MotoNZ is a new website set up by the Motorcycle Advisory Council who will be giving the green light to any initiatives to come out of the Motorcycle Safety Levy fund from motorcycle registrations. While BRONZ does not believe this levy should have been put in place at all and still firmly believes in the abolition of 'wheelism', this website should be viewed in a positive light as it gives YOU the chance to share your thoughts on what the $30 that has already been added to your rego costs should be spent on.
BRONZ Easter Egg Run
This year's Easter Egg run was rather wet, so a big thanks goes out to all those who turned up! The Easter Eggs were delivered safely to the Salvation Army to be distributed to children in need, and the morning tea and piping hot coffee made up for the dismal weather. There are still a number of badges available for those who are interested in obtaining one of the red and black editions from this year's ride. Contact Peggy on bronzauckland@hotmail.com.
Rural Roads Submission
BRONZ's recent submission on rural roading issues such as slick paint, bitumen bleeding and roadside vegetation and signage can be viewed on the BRONZ website here.
