    Video camera hire for racing

    Hi All,

We are looking to have 3 video cameras available at the next VMCC round for hire. Good quality video, mounted via a elastic band to the helmet so you get video of where you are looking.

Tested these yesterday and look good.
Video amounts to approx 1 cdrom of data file per 6 lap race on manfeild.

We will have 4Gb data sticks installed and will be able to transfer these to DVD's as required.

    Question ???
How much would you be prepared to pay per day of hire and would you be interested ?

I could upload some sample videos to youtube but they will be of a lot lower quality than what you will end up with so it would be unfair to judge the quality by this means.

    Cheers
    Warren.

What are they worth to replace should we damage them? or would that risk be cover in the hire price?

Ok we would envisage a $30 or $40 deposit refundable upon return of the item in good nick. This is by no means replacement costs. We are prepared to take a bit of a risk on that one. I guess if someone totalled the camera in an accident then replacement would be required $170 approx per camera.

Given that the camera is helmet mounted, when you go fast all you hear is wind noise. To get a good sound from the bike it would need to be mounted behind the fairing blade. I do have handlebar mounts for these, but most race bike are not suited to having something attavhed to the bars as there is not enough room.

My 808 spy cam fits inside the helmet valcroed to the top brim. Only problem is the heavy breathing and the date stamp in the bottom right, but at $30 a pop it will produce similar quality to what those are doing.

Well it looks like we will not be bringing these to the next session, quality when compared to others is just not up there enough to warrant the cost.

This is one type which fits anywhere and was what the bucket vid was taken with...

This is a simlar type which I use for mounting on my steering head - it has a slightly wider angle than the 808
Here is how I mount it on my bike http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQp_9NBIb-A

I don't use Ebay, but I will be keen to get one of these at some point - 720p but same as the normal keychain one.

This was taken Sunday on the 808 with the sun shining in my face late afternoon

The cameras a cheap and cheerful - you don't get a screen to see what the picture looks like, so you have to experiment somewhat.

They can record about 40min to an hour on a single charge and depending on the size of your memory card.

OH - and on the 808 and the HD80 the time stamp in the bottom right cannot be disabled, though some editing tricks can be used to hide it, like my Bucket video. It is rumored the 720P version of the 808 can have its time stamp disabled.
