    Kawasaki Stockman

Your thoughts on one of these for off road/farm type work. I need to be able ride at walking pace, ride slowly up very steep terrain, and easily reach the ground while seated. So if anyones got one let me know your thoughts please.

Perfect for that, Elle learned to ride on her KL250 Sherpa (coming up for sale) and it is a great wee bike.

Rosie had a Sherpa as well and loved it and Alane has one too.

Stockman for farm work is what it is designed for.

sounds good...they seem to have the jump on the others with 6 speed box and 50cc more.

Yes they do, a little higher spec than a lot of it competitors.

DOHC, stainless header and muffler and good speedo etc, little budget in the suspension but it works ok, they have good power and rev well and are a very polite wee bike to ride.

Stock bars are very cheesy and bend easy as, we fitted DR 650 bars on Ellens.

They run f a r k e n lean from factory so recommend up the jet sizing by about 10 -15% as they run very soggy particularly in the cold, see Linton at DAS in Chch as he did Ellens and it runs much better.

    YEP!
The Super Sherpa would fit that criteria well.
I have three.--Two '97 Sherpa,s & a Stockman. One Sherpa is in excellent condition,& the others are---well----well used.the Stockman ,so used,it has no serations left on the front edges of the footpegs. I find them verry reliable, the motors purrr like little sewing machines.I have just had my stockmans shock reconditioned though ,by Stack & Western.Cost just over $200.
I,ve never altered the jets, but I found, after a baffle in one bike came loose,& I cut the muffler & removed it,cause it was driveing me crazy, made a big difference to the overall performance.I highly recomend this.
There are always lots of dealers selling traded in stockmans s s,on Trademe, but I,m inclined toward Sherpa,s ---because
    1--Had an easier life--hopefully---no mud,dirt,or overheating,riding behind stock,etc.
2--Registered,can use for recreation ,on the road.
3---Stockman,s handgaurds are ugly & carrier is too wide.
    4---Sherpa,s are no dearer.
I don,t think the year of manufacture is important, the only changes, since introduction in '97 were cosmetic,as far as I know.

I did the Dustybutt this year,on my "good" one.Took it down from the "Naki" on a rack on the back of my van.very "low stress" rideing, owing to it,s fairy weight & low hieght. But yes, the front suspention especially, is a bit limited, when the pace picks up.
I do wonder if a klx front forks would fit, that would be great,I,m shure.
You do realise,Countryguy, there is the Supersherpa thread on ADVrider?(just google "Supersherpa thread".)
As far as useing one as a farmbike,I think its streets ahead of some of the "hardcore" farmbikes, due to it,s nimbleness, reliability & performance.
    Good luck decideing----ALANE

They do look the business. For some reason I can't figure out why an enclosed chain is not standard on farm bikes considering the amount of mud, muck and slush they have to deal with on a daily basis.
You don't get to be an old dog without learning a few tricks.
Shorai Powersports batteries are very trick!

They used to put them on the CT's but if mud gets inside they freeze up in the winter and you can'y move them

Hi Monsta, give me a yodel when you do decide to sell . Sues new Bonnie is not the thing to do gravel on. Gotta sell her GPX 250 first.

i would almost guarntee they would fit straght in, but they would be a bit longer so you would have to do something to raise the rear end to get it higher,

the stockman and the sherpa are the same basic bike, with the stockman having the farm extra's added to it, early on we had people register stockmans, but it is much harder to do now,

We may have sold it locally already without even trying, I have been teaching a local lady to ride and she has fallen in love with Ellens bike, will know by the end of the week so will keep you posted for sure.
