rf900 clutch lever(advice)

Am replacing my bent clutch lever after dropping the bike on its side the other day.@*!@&@!*&^. As im as mechanically minded as a boiled egg I was wondering as there seems to be only one bolt holding it in place, if I take it out is there anything horrible going to happen. i.e arse dropping off or things flying out. seems to be simple enough but going from previous experience every time I do something mechanical I end up with my 4lb dumpy in my hand ready to beat the shit out of what Im trying to fix.

There will obviously be the clutch cable as well as that is also attached to the lever. The cable can be easily removed from the lever.

Taking it out shouldn't be hard, putting it back in might be a little harder. You have the clutch adjustment screw on the clutch lever, turn that clockwise to loosen the cable, this will help if the cable is too tight.

How bent is this lever? If not too bad, you can sometimes straighten them, with application of some heat (hot air gun) and force. Sometimes though, the bending and re-straightening makes the metal more brittle and it will just snap. Seeing as you are set on replacing it anyway, you've nothing to lose in this case.
As Feint said, there's not much to this - don't worry too much about hidden springs flying out or anything like that.

The RF clutch is hydraulic,but yes it is held on with one screw.When the screw is removed you have to manouvre the lever to disengage it from the lock out switch stub which comes up from below the lever.Or alternatively you can remove the switch by undoing the two small screws.

nah... its a hydo. clutch, nothing will drop out... if something does.... put it back in

took the rf a couple of miles up the road to check there was no probs with the steering etc and found the clutch lever is now more comfy and easier to use than a straight one. perhaps Id better get in touch with suzuki designers, think I might have stumbled on to a revolutionary new design. maybe I could get the brake lever bent to match. looks a bit naff ,but hey it works!
