Well I'm moaning about having the common cold, so your unfortunate situation has put mine into perspective. Sorry to hear that you have to stop riding for money reasons Oldrider, rather than old age. My first thought was what a bummer getting old is, then I reminded myself the alternative is dying younger. That sucks even more.

Maybe you will find a suitable sub 600 to keep you smiling when summer arrives. Mind you apart from dirt bikes there are no under 600cc adventure/touring bikes are there?

Arghhhh - mate. Like cruza hinted at - research the costs for regoing it as a farm vehicle - limits you to a certain distance from your home - but you still get to enjoy that Trill!!! on them sunny days when you need a Thrill!!!

Bugger,and the idiots at govt may have to think about the levies(ya friigin think),how many will do this,rego on hold,say 100,000 bikes,maybe 30,000 on hold,not a brain surgeon to think costs will rise as result.

My feelings on riding unregoed is if on hold for winter and the fine day cruise,mmm yep ok,but no rego,ride anyway and then crash not a good look eh,mmm Katman theory again,and media grabbing crash info and if they dig on the plate,find unrego that just adds ammo for our levies to rise.

Perhaps our committee on board the msac? should advise the corporation IF you lower rego fees,more bikes will rego IF we are to pay on a user pays basis for accidents.Not this bullshit costing at the moment.

If rego on hold and you ride, other than to get the WOF so you can reg, and you crash then you are going to collect the fine, don't moan, but ACC should also be allowed to sue you to recover the cost of your treatment don't suggest the last to the Govt cause the admin costs would make it uneconomical.

The thing is, because I am rego'd for 9 months of the year, I still pay a fair share of the ACC levy (albeit only 3/4 of it) BUT, even if I crashed my bike in the 3 month on-hold period i would still be covered for the same level as the people who don't rego at all.
User pays is the only fair way, and the fairest way is it must be added on either petrol or milage. I don't believe my 7000kms/year justifies the same ACC levy as the 20,000km/year plus rider

Why should I believe 7000km over new roads, exciting roads occasionally should be any safer than my 20000 + km regular commute on the same motorways everyday of the week.

If I ride from shakey city to Bluff, and you rode from Dorkland to Bluff, the law of averages would say you have more chance of being hit by a car than I, as you are simply on the big dangerous road for a longer period of time than me.
Plus your regular commute could be so boring, you have more chance of falling asleep at the helm.
Saying that, I could get hit at the first intersection, but then again so could you.

No chance of getting bored on the commute with Welly drivers that's why I try to ride in the off peak, know the roads and not as many other idiots out there.

Oldrider, 57 years riding motorcycles is an amazing achievement. Considering that motorcycles have probably only been on our roads for about 90 to 100 years tops, you have used them for over half their existence.

I doubt many people alive or departed could lay claim to 57 years of riding.

Well this is sad news indeed. I haven't met you, but have enjoyed your contributions to the forum, I hope you keep up with that.

57 years is pretty amazing, I hope you find a way to add to that in the future!

agree, although his main reason for giving it all up is the same reason many others will also, which is a shame.

I wouldn't want to go to Aucks either, was just an example of distance travelled.
