Athens, London, Jerusalem all in a day

After buying an XT550 of trademe yesterday, I decided to treat myself to a ride on the XT400 and go somewhere I haven't been before, which was too be the river road.

The first section of the road was greasy over the first hill, but was expecting That,Then down the other side into the unkown and having no idea how long the trip would take to get to Ratehi....but allowing about an hour from Ratehi back too Wanganui

Well as like any new zone caution tends too take over, just crusing riding my own ride I didn't have a care in the world, the road condition was great and locals waved without hesitation,I was in awe of the scenary and really enjoying where I was and where I was heading then I came across a lonely old disiel pump...after getting into the doc zone the wild goats became apparent hmmmmm reakon I could catch one of those

Anyway wasn't long before I came across a local women gathering watercress from the road side, thinking this women knows where its at( so willl have too grab some next time I am passing through)

Its wasn't long before I came upon the gravel section(10k's worth) which was rather cut up due too the amount of rain in the area recently ,so it was fun being more muddy than gravel and which was broken by the stop at Jerusalem. So a look in at the old St Joeseph convent seem to be a good idea,(hmmm no catholic girls here) and then on to Pipiriki out too Ratehi the last leg of the unknown but an insight too what trail's lay in those hills, there is some tracks there that look interesting and I am looking forward too exploring more of the area more so the Matahiwi track that cut's across too the Parapara road

The round trip took 3 hours and is 195ks,the trip back down the Parapara's from Ratehi to Wanganui was epic although I have done this road many times it was the first time I have done it on the XT or a trail bike

It's a good road that one. A shame so much of it is sealed now but it's still an enjoyable road ride also.

A few of us have done Matahiwi, if you do a search you should find a few pics and things in here. The track passes over a Maori owned farm now so you need permission. It doesn't follow the original track due to an earthquake many years ago lifting one half of the track 50 metres or something vertically above the other half so the original route is now impassable.

Nice Baz! I'm loving the DR so far and we'll have to get offroad sometime soon. Good luck with the new? XT! That looks like a sweet ride, both the road and the bike, I wonder why they don't make seats like that anymore? Nice
