First long ride on the C50

Had a great ride yesterday, 210km - which is long for me anyway.

Went Westgate, Kaukapakapa, SH 16, West Coast/Woodcocks Rd, Warkworth, Omaha and back to Auckland. Never been to Omaha before and struck me as a bit like Pauanui with all the trendy 'holiday homes'.

Bike went really well. Couple of corners caught me out and I ran a bit wide, caused by going in a bit faster than recommended. Getting used to the buffeting. It seems to vary quite considerably depending on the strenght of the wind and its direction. One minute its there and then its gone. Bike eats the miles, you don't realise how many you have down since you last looked at the odometer. Although I hate travelling on the motorway, hopped on in Orewa and in no time I was turning off in Waterview. So I can see while these are called cruisers (even tho' only 800cc).

Left Westgate with a full tank and got home with 3 of the 5 bars showing and that was fairly impressive. Guesstimating about 25 km/l or 60 odd mpg. Would this mean that I could get 350-400km out of a tank? Remembering that I ride like a nana etc.

Interested to hear what others get out of their M50/C50's

So overall very happy with my recent purchase.

Now where is my chrome polishing cloth...........

I use my M50 as a daily (peak hour) commute from Glenfield,North Shore to Penrose and I regulary get 260-280 Km from a tank. Admittedly, that is near empty when I refill, but the few long rides I've had I have averaged about 50 MPG, and I generally don't ride like a nana, either commuting or long distance. Riding nana-ish I reckon you should be able to get about 55 MPG out of it.

I fill at 280km, the last 3 bars go quite quickly. Estimate full range at about 300km but its a heavy bike so cant really push it to the next station if it runs out.
The wifey is just starting to pillion now so this weekend did 2 runs each of about 100km. Working up to longer (300+) runs. I can quite comfortably do a run from full to empty. The other day went to Port Waikato for lunch then across to Miranda for coffee before coming home via Clevedon.
The buffeting does come and go, varies with speed also. The best speed 1 minute will not be the same the next. Am still playing with screen position. Have 35mm packer at the bottom mount now. Have to get longer bolts to add any more.
Have found bike more stable with pillion. Can really eat up the km. Not so good on corners but.

I jacked the rear shock up to it's highest setting for two up and we find it's about perfect. Doesn't bottom out and handling is great within cruiser limits. With the VA lowers, buffetting is not an issue for me.

So that was you I spotted coming over the Southern bridge through Orewa; we were just coming back into town and I wondered if you might have called in to see if we were home and we missed you. Good ride though! I get 60mpg easy solo and the warning light flashes at 5lt left. It's very accurate but I usually fill up at about the 240km mark. The way I ride, 280km should be easy but as has been said, the bike is too heavy to push if you do run out...

Filled up the tank yesterday to the level it was and took 8.5-9 litres so that equates to about 23-24 km/l or 55-60mpg in the old money.

Seemed ages till the first bar disappeared - about 100km. Nice to know that the gauge is fairly accurate tho.

Was going to call in but don't like to unannounced. Any luck with the sale Ed? Must come and copy the manual too. I guess that there is a copy centre handy?

Mine is the M50 - and am usally topping up the fuel tank at about 200km's. I do hower ride this bike a lot harder than is supposed to be ridden, and if I settle down a little, I often get 150 miles.

So pleased to hear you getting out on your noble steed. The fun has only just begun

We don't mind people popping on the off-chance we're home, so never feel you have to call first. I don't know if I'd call it luck to sell the bike... To be perfectly honest I'm kinda hoping it doesn't but I've had about 250 clicks on it so far...

I've got a scanner/copier so if you don't need the whole manual, we can just copy the pages you need, otherwise there is a local copy centre as well.

Bloody great bike for a SI ride. Did it myself back in April. Just brilliant. They handle beautifully and comfy too.

interesting hearing what mileage you are geting out of your bikes, i have recently swapped to a S50 ok so diff to what you guys are talking about am getting around 200kms before switch to reserve, was getting around 300kms from my er6f, however i do love the fact that i can now touch the ground easily and love crusin on it, its so easy to ride

From West Auckland to Thames (via Miranda) and return. Topped it up before I left home and topped up again upon my return. Did 275km and hardley slurped 10 litres.

Rode like at nana averaging 80-90 kph (as I here for the ride not the race) and the thing just ate the km's.The more I ride it the more I love it.

Cant really argue at that consumption for a bike of this size. Also running it now on 97 octane and it "feels' a bit gruntier as well.
