It's practical to see and be seen .. so I ride the centre line .. (probably about half a metre to a metre to the left of it and often just the right of the car in front of me) ... and like Mom, drift around to see what is happening and to be seen.
If I'd been the rider that nearly got smoked I would have drift out so the other bike could see me .. classic mistake of riders - hug the left line where you can easily be obscured behind the cars in front ..
(But if you're gonna hang on the centre line like I do, watch it in right hand corners, or you end up leaning OVER the right line and into the lane coming the other way ..)
"So if you meet me, have some sympathy, have some courtesy, have some taste ..."
Bikers are stupid people. You need to watch out for them.
As for using the term smoke.
Your a retard.

I have to admit that I have taken a biker out. It was many years ago in Wellington. He was passing me on the left while I was turning left into a service station on Adelade Rd. Didn't half fuck his BMW Paris Dakar but he was mostly OK. The shitty old company workshop ute hack had a few more scratches.
Just another leather clad Tinkerbell.
The Wanker on the Fucking Harley is going for a ride!
I have been watching riders do this in hammy lately, while on my commute home.
Some of them are fair fanging along, I was wondering what would happen if they met a rider coming along the other way, not a lot of room to miss each other splitting on those medians in some places (I am talking the painted ones, not the gardens). Especially with the heavy traffic meaning there is not alot of space to duck left and back into the line of traffic either. It would be quite easy to miss the on coming bikes headlight in amongst the oncoming traffics headlights.
You just need to really watch out for bikes, they can be hard to see sometimes. Btw the motorcyclist can ride wherever he wants in the lane... I was hit by a car while riding due to the driver not seeing me, she T-boned right into me. So, just be careful from now on when pulling out from side roads eh
Nearly got collected by a biker on Sunday. I was riding up the Akatara Hill road, hugging the left around a left hand bend because the four cages coming down the hill left me less than half the road. Next thing, on the tail of the cars comes a bike cutting the corner. In hindsight the image of him standing his bike up to avoid me was quite funny. I think I have worked out why he thought it was safe to cut the corner but it is a typical cager mistake. I suspect he noticed the lines the cages were taking, i.e. over half the road, and therefore assumed there was no on coming traffic![]()
When I'm on a bike approaching a traffic situation like this, that is, someone waiting to turn right in front of me, I'll flick to high beam and point myself straight at them for a second or so. This makes me the threat so the driver hopefully thinks to himself "Shit, dudes coming right at me, I hope he's seen me!" It just kind of wakes them up a bit.
Anyway, that's my thinking and it's worked so far.

I'm livin' the dream.
