Major Brownie points for Reflections

A lot of people will know that I dropped my beloved Blackbird in the dirt on the Southern Cross run at East Cape. Although the crash mushroom saved it from serious damage, the fairing side panel had bad gravel rash and some deep gouges in it from the loose metal.

Sent it to Reflections Motorcycle Refinishers in Glenfield on the recommendation of some of the people on this site (thanks guys

) and it came back today, carefully wrapped in cardboard, foam rubber and a layer of tissue underneath. It is PERFECT, in fact better finish than original. Matching multiple layers of translucent blue over a metallic base must be no mean feat.

Support the good guys and tell people about who gives you good (and bad) service.

Glad to hear its all fixed Geoff. I'm still trying to get my bike completely claen after that ride, but the grin is still there.

I plan on throwing some more work their way, so reading things like this just makes me want to do it all quicker!!

Yep, I still have a bit of ingrained crap in out of the way places which will take several cleans to remove. Also like you, there's hardly a day goes by when I don't think about that ride. Did you send a story to BRM?

Can also vouch for them, used them to touch up some scratches after a drunken yobo thought it a good idea to topple my bike off its stand . . .

They're not the cheapest, but their quality is outstanding.

It's good to hear that standards are still high after Larry sold, I was rapt with all the help and work Larry did for me on the RF.

Yeah, same here. Had some excellent work done on the VFR750 by Larry. Glad to hear that they're still good.

Hey Geoff, how much did they charge if you don't mind me asking? Was it for the whole side fairing panel? And was a complete respray needed? (I assume so)

I had a VERY minor off in a muddy, wet Foodtown car part (laugh if you like), which would have been nothing if I had bungs, but it left some fine scratches on the fairing which are not nice looking in the sun light.

$408 inc courier to Tokoroa. You might wince but because of the gouges, that was rubbing it right back and filling and because of the metallic paint job, metallic layers, followed by transluscent blue coats, then clearcoats. A big job.

You get what you pay for! I'm sure there are cheaper places but Dave at Reflections is a perfectionist just like Larry Hoggard used to be. That's fine by me.

Sorry to hear about your minor whoopsie. Not laughing as I did a similar thing when I first had the 'bird. It wasn't that bad but it screamed "DICKHEAD" every time I looked at it, so just had to get it fixed properly! If you ran a poll, there would be very few people who haven't done it!

Hahaha...I'm feeling very strong empathy here. I'm planning to get some bungs, and then will get it fixed, as this would have been a nothing if there were some bungs on it.

$408 sounds an ok price, especially if there work is really as good as I've heard.

Got any pics of the bike now that it's all fixed up?

do they do this sortof touch up or where would i needto go to get my "little" mark removed (yeah, i went for a slide in the wet a couple of weeks back...remember that big thunderstorm in auckland?)

I've cheated a bit because this was taken BEFORE the off, but you wouldn't know because the respray of the side panel is flawless. However, I attached it because of my crash bungs. They saved it from a lot worse damage and if it had been a sealed road rather than a heavily cambered dirt road with loose rocks, I'd have probably got off scot-free too.

Squiggles... best ring them but invisible touch-ups are always hard to do. They may only do a full panel respray.

That colour and finish look not miles off from mine, think I might be givin them a call to get the left side touched.
