Gonna tent it, will have a couple spare pairs of undies so bike will have a bit of gear...lets call it a dress rehearsal for something bigger...

I'm taking a week to Head down the west coast, Fjiordland, Catlins, meet up for the DB1k for a squeal around the backcountry then head north through Hanmer and dirty old Molesworth.

Should be about 3.5k by the end of it.

As a side issue, I'll be hiring a beacon for my trip These guys seem pretty reasonable at $8 per day. Anyone else gonna carry one for the DB1K?

Ta, have texted him. Struan, I didn't have a room lined up at the Gladstone, I just didn't expect it to chock up so quick! I guess I'll go with the Pinewood, Mrs B and I stayed there on the way back last year, it was great.

Yep it is, so to make life easier for yourself gear up for a 300km range. Don't panic yet those of you with little tanks. Got a couple of rural fuel stops I'm going to talk to about opening for us. Alternatively there is always taking a detour back to Alex for fuel.

Yep. PLB. Always carry one on ADV rides - right hand pocket of my jacket. SWMBO decided we needed one a few years back when we started doing two up together through places like the rainbow.

Woodman- I still need a place to sleep however apparently i snore really really loudly & it's getting louder. If you find a 2 bedrm place & want no sleep I'll go halves with ya or if you find a couple of singles I'll take one, or I could get off my arse & do it myself...

or take a tent & keep a whole campground awake...

Distance between fuel stops is a real headach for me. I want to create a route that takes in all the good bits and minimal seal bits. Also want to go past reliable fuel stops. All seems like a good idea right?

I've just come up with my ideal route but the longest leg between fuel stops would be 290km. Those of us with monsta tanks no worries, but bit much me thinks for the average bike. Back to the drawing board to adjust the route to try and include another fuel stop. Got a couple of options - just need to check out how reliable their fuel is and if they are open on a Sunday.

Just got a 15l tank for the KTM. Not as big as yours R but hopefully will do the distance. Don't want the bike to be too top heavy-it seems to fall over often enough now!
