The challenge loops - just how difficult are they? I'm a competent off road rider, will I struggle on my 640Adv?

TA's vid is a good look into the Awakino challenge section, there are a few steepish parts but it is bloody great fun and the scenery is outstanding

DAS’s Mitas tyre stocks are slowly being depleted with the chance that the next shipment may not arrive before DB1K kick-off, it may pay to get in quick

For those looking for a good tyre to tackle the challenge sections the Mitas C02 is a very aggressive DOT approved tyre at only $169

KLR can do em and its a road bike, just stay away from watery ruts.
Only issue I had on the Awakino was going down the other side there were a couple of times that the bash plate got a real good workout.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

I've riden a 950 Adv S over all of the route more than a couple of times and consider myself to be an intermediate rider.

This is my rear tyre of choice for this year and would be a good more one step more agressive tyre compared to a E09/D606/MT21.

    Andy,

I ride my 640 down there on an E07 rear and a knobbly (trackmaster, cheap and cheerful) up front, and I have never wished for anything more. At that time of the year down there, mud is pretty rare, and rocks are the main issue. I run pressures pretty high, as I am much more worried about flats than needing the additional traction from lower pressures. There is nothing there that is too challenging even on a big bike for a rider with a bit of experience off road and on looser and deeper loose surfaces.

The bigger challenge is keeping your eyes on the road. The scenery is great…

Sweet. I was watching that XT600 topple over all the time in the challenge video and thought to myself "wow those challenge sections must be really hard!!" Mind you it looks as tho that XT is fitted with an ejector seat if you watch the vid at 2:52 So just thought I'd check. Sure I won't have too many issues (famous last words). Will have an MT70 on the rear and a Dunlop D605 on the front coz that's whats sitting in the shed.

Now off to physio to get my hand ready for this trip, I can almost make a fist now
