Best Day On A Bike Ever

Home late last night from the DB after an awesome 3600 Kms.
I have been riding / racing / mucking around and falling off motorcycles for more than 35 years now and Saturday was easliy the best day i have ever had an a motorcycle.
Sunday was probably equally as good, it was just that i was not fully prepared for the cold conditions up on the lammerlaw range and at the serpentine church .

As i was riding up to the church and it was snowing on me again, i was thinking what sort of nutter builds a church way up here

Completed all of the challenge sections on both days, but unforntunately in the black forest section on day 2 my rear tyre cried enough and tore open a 75 mm gash.
Managed to put a tube patch on the inside of the tyre to stop the tube poking out and carried on gingerly for the next 60 kms untill 15kms from fairlie on the tarseal the patch failed again.

So a big thanks to the 2 guys from christchurch who collected me and the bike and trailered us back to fairlie.
Also a HUGE thanks to Struan for sorting out a replacement tyre for me ( or i might still be in Fairlie ) and to Roger for bringing it to me in Fairlie.

Will be back next year for sure, so that i can say i finished the whole event

Ryan, for organizing such an amazing and well run event you are a BLOODY LEGEND
Here for a good time, not necessarily a long time

The Christchurch guys were Tony (TE) and Grant (Big Guy).

Tony was another broken collar bone from a spill on Sunday and he also cracked three ribs. He had a plate put in on Monday and is due out of the hospital tomorrow. He was doing it hard with those injuries getting through the Lammamoors so thanks to everyone who helped him.

Hope you are feeling better soon and are up for it again next year.
Collar bones can be quite painless. When I did mine I was swinging my arm around with just minor twinges event though it was snapped in two.

    Awakino Saddle closed

Due to a slip on Sunday (rain/snow/wind) the track has fallen away on the scree slope just after the zig-zag climb. It will be repaired, but not for a couple of weeks. Lucky we got through on Saturday...

    Don't tell me mate's

What a bloody top ride mate, Us Aussies had a unreal time and will be back again next year for sure.

Won't be telling all me mates though, don't want them lowering the tone of the place.

Fantastic job of running the show and the GPS maps were spot on.

From sunny and warn to a bloody blizzard in 10 minuts, unreal

Beautiful part of the world you have there.

    See you all next year

    Home again!

Safely back last night as well, thanks Ryan and all the others that contributed to a fun filled 7 days, the GPS route was perfect for me, I still have a strong dislike for the Awakino saddle (bush bashing in the inverted position didn't seem a good riding style for that sort of terrain) but I've forgiven you now Ryan. Time for some upskilling I think!
I had a minor off on the way home but got back in one piece and judging by the list of injuries got off very lightly, only a swollen ankle.

Stephen, glad you're ok, I was surprised to see you still going on saturday with that shoulder, you're a lot tougher than you give yourself credit for, well done mate.

Special thanks to Struan for all his organising on our (Jaffas') behalf with saving us a lot of hassle over accomodation and general advice and rescuing.

To echo Marks words, best riding time I have ever had, I should have the bike repaired in time for next year.....

Anyone got a RH side KTM footpeg?

    Thumbs up Cheers Ryan

Good to get back down South again, loved the ride even though you South Islanders don't know that summer weather is supposed to be WARM!!

Great riding in the snow even with the unexpected cold, only my hands got a little chilled. Thanks to Alex(Skinny.......) for leading Taz & I after Gardeners Track.

The XR didn't put a wheel wrong all weekend, after my last minute fuel issue.......

So did the Beemer rider get thru the Gardeners Track ok??

Thanks to Fran for leading Taz & I through Mangatapu track/forestry, good way to finish our south Is leg.

The GPS track was fantastic Ryan, cheers.

Rode from Kawhia to Akl today in jeans, t-shirt & jacket with liner removed.........
