From the feedback I've seen or heard I think most people that have done the ride might think that's a silly question... answer being yes!

Picked up my new front tyre yesterday so as to avoid the last minute rush and disappointment.
Already have the rear in the shed.

For the transalp as something with good road manners I'm using Mitas E09 Dakar front at $145 from DAS. Difference in the DAKAR version is it has a stronger carcass (one textile ply more) and the bead area has a new type of apex... what ever that means.
For rear I have a partly used E09 that will go on.
Price for the 17inch rear at the moment is $200 so I might try the more aggressive Mitas C02 rear (closer to $170) on the Transalp sometime which is cheaper. Liked it on the DR but squirms a bit on road.
If I was using the lighter (than the TA) DR650 I might have tried the Mitas C17 front for better performance in the wet ruts up the Lammermoor Ranges etc but the extra weight of the TA would likely destroy it too fast.
For something basically the same pattern as the E09's but don't know about compound and wear rates I am interested in the Michelin T63's which are a bit cheaper (rear especially) now the Mitas has crept up so far in price.
I do like getting my tyres from DAS though so gone Mitas again this round.

Taking the Alp with Janet on back this year if all goes to plan.

The T63 has a very shallow tread and aren't much good in anything loose or muddy, I'm running one on the front of the DR at the moment and wouldn't again for winter riding, they are ok in the dry though.

DAS doesn't control the price rises, that comes from the importer.

The E09 has a similar depth to the T63 which is why I might have used a C17 front if the bike was lighter.
The E09 is still better than E07 for wetter stuff, E07 being my general use favourite summer tyre, though recently I find myself trending back to knobby styles more often.
I have used the E09 both ends before and thought the were better than they looked, and this round I wanted to retain the roady side of the equation because they're going on the Transalp and I'm not willing to spend the extra to try a TKC which still clog up anyway from what I've heard/read.

On the DR I have been recently running Trelleborg T-434 front an C02 rear.
T-434 is a bit nasty on the DR until it is well worn, worked better on the TA but not as nice on highway as E09 etc still, and hard to work on as it bites hands between bead and rim.

Not according to the cycletreads online price list. There's still $40+ difference there.
Where would you go for them?
