ha ha, yea, and that's on special normally $250 with RRP of $290.
    Mitas were not on special.

Tyres had to be bought up, two reasons,
1- to bump the Thread back up to remind people the DB1K is coming, all be it still almost 4 months away.
2- The right tyres can be a real pain to get if you leave it to the last minute.

You can't talk, you haven't done a sourthern DB route yet.... AND YOU'RE CRAZY
Those will be too slick for a lot of people on big bikes, but of course very road bias tyres are the type of tyres people on big bikes try to use.
Two seconds in the Lammermoors and that thing will be sooo slick.

Thumbs up DB1K site now live!!!

    Hi Guys.

Its finally here. The DB1k website is now live! A massive thank you to ADVGD for all his hard work.

    http://www.db1k.com

Head over to the site to register yourself as a rider. This year you can pay for your entry on line so there is no cash worries on the night - meaning more time for talking bikes, riding and having a good time. Also this year ride T-shirt are available. This are a great way for your to have a bit of memorabilia for the ride and a great way to contribute towards the costs of organising the ride. I will not be organising any accommodation this year. But have a look at the accommodation page to find options and get on an organise accommodation soon.

The site has been built to automate the registration progress and should be intuitive but feel free to use the contact page to get in touch should you need too.

    Cheers R

I've no idea what the Lammermoors are like, but WRT to Shink705s, I've got one on the back of the KLR and it proved surprisingly capable in pretty snotty Karipoti wet clay - letting the bike plonk through on torque rather than revving its tits off was the go.
Don't have rimlocks, either so the tyre was at normal road pressure.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

I've been running a rimlockless 18psi on the rear of the DR without issues...

There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find adventure and those who go secretly hoping they won't. We should come home from our adventures having faced their perils and uncertainties, endured their discomfort and beaten the odds, with a sly acknowledgment and revitalised solidarity of character.

Ok, but you're not using it on the front though ?
KLRs and DRs are also only mid sized, while I feel the argument still applies to them, it applies a lot more to the bigger bikes I was aiming at.
Like I said somewhere before, I've pushed bikes needlessly that had no forward drive on soft riverbed and up slippery slopes and seen others get stuck or fall repeatedly on relatively easy slipperyness who eventually turned back because of their tyre choice.
I'll still help push a stuck bike but if they haven't bothered to at least put decent tyres on to help themselves I will not be impressed.
No doubt I'll need a hand myself in a river or two but it won't be because of my tyres.

I see the DB1k website is now up and I didn't notice any specific mention of tyres so with every rider ultimately being responsible for their own choices and having said my warning I'll not (short of maybe posting a short video of good examples because that could be entertaining) argue the point any further.

    I just registered.
    Now counting the days.
