I have just found my first bit that didn't get videoed when I thought GoPro was recording.... card was full.

No tracks for the snow ride, Dunstan, Haldon, Black Forest...

I thought I recorded a bit of Struan cam in the snow but obviously not...

Hello fellow dusty butters. I trust most of you are all back at home now & caught up with your families etc.
It sure was a fantastic event. The riding, scenery, comraderie, generosity & humour in the face of adversity will be a warming memory in the years to come.

Of course the fun we had wouldn't be possible without the tireless work Ryan the organiser did. As you guys are aware that was some big country to plot & log. A hell of a lot of tyre rubber, gas money & time went into creating what is without a doubt one of the best rides in New Zealand.

This is about the 5-6th Dusty butt & so far to my knowledge Ryan has asked for nothing in return for his services. He has a job, mortgage, (obviously patient) wife & young family & I'm sure most of us realise how much of a juggle that is.

As I mentioned at the rider briefing I would really like to extend an invitation for those that participated to offer a koha (gift to you poms

) as a thank you for Ryan for his commitment to our safety & enjoyment.

I may not have made it clear during the briefing that I would collect the money as a representative (self elected

) of the riders & pass it on as either gift vouchers from a bike shop or something similar. For liabilities sake I wouldn't want Ryan to be taking entry fees.

Thanks to those that already pmed me re this koha. I will send a group pm with my bank details to those who wish to donate. As a lot of us are in different financial situations (bike breakages don't count

) I wouldn't want to set an amount however will put out there that many two day rides are hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

There were also some riders that were friends of friends attending. it would be great if word was passed to them that they could donate if they wished.

Thanks once again to Ryan & his crew of helpers for making this annual event keep happening & you guys for supporting the ride.

What amazing country we have down there in Te Wai Pounamu - loved every minute of my travels down South - Friday was special also - huge thanks to all you assisted me in Blue Mountains station after my off as a result of losing control in a rut

till next time - God willing - I plan on being there in 2013

6th DB1k now. First was in 2007. It amazes me (and scares me a little if I'm honest) how much the popularity of this ride grows each year.

I'll reiterate, my helpers are Transalper and this year ADVGD. If you do provide koha of some form please try and do so in a way that I can share this with them.

The first time I spoke with the landowner about going over Awakino Saddle he thought I was a bit nuts. I think I've proved that I'm completely nuts by taking my 950 Adv S over there in previous years. Did anybody notice Mt Cook out to their right as they road along the tops? Also I'm not sure how many realised that the 'hut' with Ida Valley on it was actually the Ida Valley Railway Station. You passed its original location when you were riding alongside the rail trail in the Ida Valley.

Hi all
That was a truly worth while ride the terrain was amazing I thought I had seen the south island but this was something else with a lot of local knowledge laying the way out the dusty butt was awesome so yea a thanks to Ryan and his helpers for doing an amazing job and Padmei I would like to make a koha and I very keen for next year .
Thanks shrek for organizing accommodation in fairlie and including me that was a great time meeting up with you guys. By the way my bike made it back to wellington all duck taped up ringing its little head off down the moles worth ,I’m sure the dusty butt took one of it 9 lives off it, but "was" it was worth it .

really good bunch of blokes & blokettes - great to catch up with old friends & make new ones.

Yep. Couldn't miss Mt Cook and thought the hut looked like a railway shack.

Haha, love the man in the pink underwear. Staunch effort getting out of the Awakino with a crook leg. Hope its coming right. A young work colleague was really impressed with her Dad being brought into ED after going over the handlebars-not.
