    Wanted: 250cc or less

i'm looking for a 250cc or less as you can see by the title but i have a limited budget of $1500 to get my jacket, helmet, bike and to train to ride the thing. i'm coming over from the uk and would like to get the bike and be ready for a week or two after i arrive which will be august 5th. i know $1200 for a bike is very little but if anyone can help out it would be very appresiated

Hi deathstar... Welcome to KB... You might want to try look at:

    http://www.trademe.co.nz

For a bike at that price range... but be aware that for that price you won't exactly get a "great" bike. and that only leaves you $300 to buy the gear you need...

Good luck and I hope you find what your looking for
I'm not a complete idiot... some pieces are missing

I am afraid you really need to budget on spending the $1500 on gear ($1000 will get you there). No point in ridign with out good stuff protecting your vital bits!!

Waste of time if you expect to get all that at that price. You could always follow trucks until the requirements all fall off the back
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

1500 quid maybe (NZ$4500 as we all know), but $1500??? that is only 500 quid, and i don't think that would go far in the uk either.

well, despite the messages of negativity, I think you could do it. Change the split to $1000 bike and $500 gear. At that you'll need to look at second hand for some. $180 for a (new) lid, $35 for (new) gloves , $100 for a jacket , $80 for pants, $100 for boots. Secondhand hand, you may do better than that if you don't mind a bit scruffy.

You CAN get tolerably decent small bikes for $1000. You won't get much choice and it'll be fairly old. And you may need to be OK with a wrench just in case, but it can be done.

Are you actually restricted to a 250? Here in NZ 150 - 250 cc bikes are absurdly expensive because of licence restrictions. You can actually get 350/400's cheaper.

Your best bet is maybe an older road legal trail bike (good choice for a slow tour of the country anyway) .

The place to suss it all out , do your arithmetic, and find the bargains, is NZ's version of ebay. At Here

Good luck, and hope to see you over here.

EDIT. Both bikes and gear on tradme. Lots of secondhand gear, some very cheap

Um. Take it yer going for sarcasm there?

A little trick I did was use Ebay to buy some of my gear. (Not the helmet, obviously...)
There was a lot of stuff passing through the site when I did this a year ago, and some great bargains could be had. I had a redirection for my first three months from my Uk address to NZ, and they have to redirect anything sent to you, so... cheapissimo. A bit of a wait, though, so you might want to try to get it sorted before you come out. There is stuff on Trademe, just not nearly as much...
