FML (Or, I hate this week)

So on Friday, I managed to rear-end someone in my car. Car skidded, blah blah, panelbeaters, $500 later.

Last night, I had not one, but TWO motorcycle incidents.

    Broadway, Newmarket - 1750

Traffic was stationary - I was lanesplitting down left hand side of stationary traffic, heading towards Khyber Pass. I was passing an NZ Courier vehicle when he opened door onto me. It impacted on my left hand side, probably about handlebars or knee. Bike fell over into roadway onto stationary vehicle.

Damage: Solely to my bike. Both wing mirrors – left broken off, right shattered on road. Left of windscreen bent inwards. Front fairing cracked at both wing mirror attachment points.

Went into the city, hung out with friends, calmed down... decided to ride home.

Great South Road, roundabout with Ellerslie-Panmure Highway, Penrose – 2145

Heading south along Great South Road, being careful because of earlier incident. Noted a car on Ellerslie-Panmure Highway, he had time to stop. Ignored - to my detriment. Got to the white line of the roundabout and saw that he was still coming. He hadn't slowed down at all.

    Oh SHIT.

Braked hard, scrubbed quite a bit of speed, but not enough. Impacted on front-right of other vehicle. Closed eyes. Do not recall impact with ground. Opened eyes on my right hand side, within touching distance of southern triangular island.

Shortly after, was attended by witnesses, police, and ambulance. Went to A&E, cleared OK.

Police took a statement while I was in A&E, and I have been advised that driver was intoxicated and uninsured. He'll be going to court.

Damage: Front end of bike severely damaged. All 3 front fairings and windscreen shattered. Headlights out of alignment, possibly broken. Instrument cluster glass shattered. Possible head, frame, fork, wheel damage, as yet unknown. May be written off.

Injuries: Multiple contusions and abrasions. No breaks. The gear did its job; I'm glad I was ATGATT. Passenger in the other vehicle suffered a black eye.

Hope that everyone else is having a better week...

I'm just glad to hear you're ok. The bike can be replaced.

ATTGATT too. Am glad the outcome wasn't much more serious.

Suck to be the driver if he was caught pissed too. Good job.

Looking at the bright side, since bad luck comes in 3s, you should be sweet from here on out.

I can't work out who was at fault in the second accident. Was it at the round about, and the guy came from the right?

Yeouch, that sucks. I got rear ended by a car on Fri night, wasn't a good night to be out apparently.
Hope insurance claim goes all well for you.

I had to second read it, but I believe the other driver failed to give way ie it was the bike that had right-of-way

    hmmm

you ran into the back of someone = your fault, allways is, havnt allowed enough stopping distance

Door opened on you by courier while lane splitting = your fault, you're not meant to be there and nobody expects you to be doing it, and this is why anyone with any common sense doent do it, it's a needless risk

Round about crash = hmm maybe inexperiance, not paying attention, even though the guy was boozed, the art of operating any vehicle on the road is be able to anticipate others actions,

Yep bummer mate but maybe paying a little more attention while riding may be the answer? especially if this all happened in the same day ??

After all ANYONE not paying attention while driving/riding not only endangers their own lives BUT OURS TOO
