Best way to clean a rusty exhaust?

I read today a good way to clean a rusty exhaust (manifold end) is to use Coca Cola and rolled up alluminium foil. Roll the alluminium into balls and dip it in the Coca Cola and rub the exhausts. Anyone else got any good suggestions.

Grab a stainless steelo soap pad from the kitchen with some water and buff it off.
If you want you can also put some autosol metal polish after to finish.

Use rust converter like Blackguard then coat over it with a rattle can of stove paint.

    You didn't say classy........

Blackguard is good on rusty rims before dumping a can of hammerite over the mess.

    You didnt say butcher either

Coca Cola as a cleaning product. Haven't Mythbusters done this?

Coca cola like decades ago would have worked,
but they dont have all the harsh ingredients anymore,
if the exhaust is coming off then wire brush like there is no tomorrow otherwise rust converter as said above

Coca-Cola works because it's got a tiny amount of phosphoric acid in it. I'd suggest you skip the middleman and just buy some phosphoric or muratic acid from the local hardware store. Dilute it a bit, (okay a lot) and set up a fan so you stay upwind while using it. (Gloves too, in case you hadn't figured that out) I can tell you from experience that the muratic acid will close up your esophagus real quick if you get a whiff.

Great way to get the rust out of a fuel tank too.

So tiny that it's not listed amongst the list of ingredients on the label? I can see that cleaning up a storm.

Mebby it's not in there anymore. I'm just going by what I was told, as I went with the Muratic Acid Method myself. As you folks say: It works a treat.

Is the soda stream syrup better than a can over the counter?

I've used Coke and rolled up foil to clean some rust off my exhaust. Worked like a champ.
