Best way to get the bike fixed by insurance co?

    Hey guys,

So after being away for a month I took my my VT for a spin yesterday (a day after I got back) to be knocked off by a car failing to give way As a result I have a mild concussion, no recollection of the accident and a couple of bruises. No fun, huh?! On top of that my parents and my better half swear not to let me back riding at any cost.

Anyway, the real question is what is the best way to handle repair by insurance company? I'm fully insured, the driver is also insured. Police got involved and there's a witness, as a result it was confirmed to be driver's fault.

So do I just log a claim with my insurance and let then handle everything, or would I be better off ge tting my own assessment through Cyclespot our another Honda dealer?

The damage to the bike is fairly minimal: bent handlebars, bent levers, broken indicator and mirror, scratched exhaust and RH fairing. The later is my main reason for concern, I'd really like it to be done well, as in probably just replaced.

    Any advice is appreciated
Appologise in advance for not searching, which doesn't seem to work very well on my phone and I can't really seat behind a computer for any length of time now and probably for the next couple of days.

Look out for yourself on the road

    Cheers

Are you insured through an agent ie, Kiwibike or did you go direct to an insurance company for your policy?

If an agent, ring them first

As the Insured party, YOU HAVE CHOICE of your repair agent, that is 100% your own choice who you have fix it

I do a lot of Insurance repair work, so if you want any more info, pm or email me mate

    Thanks, Shaun, just PMed you.

I am with Kiwibike, and my policy is with Protecta if that clarifies anything. I rang Kiwibike and they confirmed that I have a choice of who fixes my bike.

So if you guys/girls have any recommendations for a repairer you dealt with and who did a good job in a timely manner - please post here. I haven't dealt with any moto body repairers before, so am completely clueless.

Sorry to hear about the accident! Had one myself not too long ago and had to say goodbye to my baby
As for repairs, I'd say go to your local Honda repairer. They'll be able to get parts in quicker, and most likely have far more expertise on the given bike in case anything needs serious fixing.

    Heal well!
