No he didn't, he paid for an exchange, no way you could expect a full set of fairings and tank for $500 total.

No I thought the $500 was to get the new fairings and tank in black for my bike, then I would assume they(the dealer) would send the blue shit back to the factory and get a refund for themselves?

you paid for a bike with factory painted black fairings.

It cost $500 more than normal because they had to swap the fairings.

You didn't get a bike with factory painted black fairings.

What exactly do you think "exchange" means.

my interpretation of "exchange" is to take the new blue parts off and exchange them for new black parts. Painting the blue parts black is not exchanging anything. whats your interpretation?

That isn't an honest mistake. The customer had specific instructions which the salesperson should have made perfectly clear to the 'guys in the back'.

"Send these fairings back to Yamaha NZ in exchange for factory black ones"
"Send these fairings to [wherever] in exchange for their black ones"

    or,

    "Get these painted black..."

Even if they located some replacement 'new' black fairings from somewhere surely as a Yamaha dealer they would've noticed that they were repainted. And yes they may have many bikes going through their workshop, but how many of those would be brand new R6's awaiting black replacement fairings? To quote Scribe, "Not many - if any".

I work in motor vehicle sales, and deal with requests from many different clients and nothing like this would ever happen, not without notifying the client first and getting their approval. I'm keen to see what their reason is.

Definitely. In fact that should have been his first port of call, rather than coming online about it. This has either been done with intent or stupidity, but either way the manager needs to be made aware of it.

So I assume they put new decals back on these after painting them so they really have gone the extra mile to deceive you- mate I dont know how you can sleep anight with out getting this sorted this is not a new bike any more , id love to here the out come of this

That's a low bloody move isn't it? I wouldn't stand for that, those fairings look like shit inside and I'd be asking you if the bike had been thrown down the road if I was buying it.
What is the paint quality like on the outside of the fairings? Have they gone as far as changing the colour I.D tag.

Hope you get it fixed up and back to how it should be

To be honest if you weren't a spraypainter you would'nt notice, the finish is quite good, unfortunately that was my trade before I joined the army so I am anal as hell about it and know what to look for. Leaving overspray everywhere is a quality control nono though. Unsure on the paint code being changed though, probably be screwd if i brought a rear cowel, would look like shit.

How was this written in the sales agreement?, even so the fairings are not fit for sale as a new item. Its new tank and fairings or bike is given back for a full refund, dont let the manager talk you into anything less, he's probably already thinking up a good number to spin onto you.

I'd notice then (Ex-panel beater/car ruiner....) I would go buy a genuine rear cowl and if the colour doesn't match, take it back again. You haven't got what you asked for and what they said they'd provide.
