Just watching MotoGP, never really watched it before. Why do they take the feet off the pegs going into turns? Are they just stretching? lol.
Shit there fast....![]()

...they are pointing out a potential hazzard on the track to following riders.
Rossi started it. It somehow gives them a better feeling on the braking before turn in. It's something you have to do yourself to see why. No real answer, just a feeling thing. They say also might help a little bit with helping it tip in to the corner.
...Full throttle till you see god, then brake.
some also say it just helps with the turn in,and get a little bit of extra weight to the inside.Might also discourage someone trying to come up the inside.Rossi really seems to stick his leg further out from the bike,Stoner and Dovi seem to just have it off the peg
Bloody reformed Motard riders !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"
Bowls can wait !
Read an interview with Rossi on cornering a while back and he said that taking his foot off the peg stopped him from putting any weight on that peg and meant that his weight all came through the centre of his body/outside leg... I believe it was to help his weight distribution when braking.
I think I might have the magazine in the garage - I'll see if it's there later today...
The odd person has been doing it for way longer than Rossi has been around for.
Two of the hardest late brakers around at the mo (Lorenzo and Spies) don't bother.
Ask yourself.
I understand that you just don't like to give Rossi credit for anything, but it would be good to see something that actually supported that statement.
All the quotes I've seen say Rossi started it and I'd never seen anybody do it previously. Now many others do it, and some, like Sufoglu(sp?), do it with the left leg as well.
There is a grey blur, and a green blur. I try to stay on the grey one. - Joey Dunlop
Then you understand incorrectly. I don't have access to a certain picture right now, but I'll be sure to post it up when I do. Meantime...have a look at a fair few of my posts here on KB where I openly and happily say Rossi is one of the best motorcycle racers of all time. He's just not God is all. I would love to have a fraction of his talent and skill.
People definitely took their foot off the peg in a similar manner before Rossi, but whether they did it for the same reasons is a matter of debate. He was at least one of the first to do it regularly, and almost definitely the reason it's become popular...
I thought it was to poke it out of the fairing slipstream as a kind of airbrake?
I love the smell of twin V16's in the morning..
