    Land access site

Forgive me if this has been posted before, but Koordinates website recently lost its layers that pertain to administrative boundaries, DOC land etc etc but this new site has cropped up which shows tracks, public roads, doc land etc etc. Have a sniff around in your region and see what goodies ye can find.

There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find adventure and those who go secretly hoping they won't. We should come home from our adventures having faced their perils and uncertainties, endured their discomfort and beaten the odds, with a sly acknowledgment and revitalised solidarity of character.

sweet - what is it you do?

I do note that some of the access colours do not necessarily correspond with the topo roads / tracks, so the need to negotiate with landowners may still be the default setting rather than claiming right of access...and being wrong!

    Yeah, cool site.

But. Lots of the "formed and unformed roads" are not entirely accurate. Also quite a number of them are on private land. I have poked around a few of the ones around here, and at times I have done my homework, and know it is a public road that was not formed, or a paper road, only to find DOC has put up a sign saying walking only. Same goes for land owners at times.

I have spoken to the local council at times, and asked about paper roads with signs saying private property, and they poitely ask me not to make waves with the landowners

But in truth, I am not really up for a fight, and I figure it is better for the reputation of bikers to be polite. Pretty frustrating tho.

See this thread for previous discussions on the subject of paper roads. Also have a read of the "Survey and Database Errors and Accuracy" paper linked on the site. Great site tho!
