i think its 400 before gst applies. Not sure any other tax or duty applies. You may get away withit even if it is over 400.make sure you know how much the postage is

Bought a new helmet from the States, Nolan N43 Trilogy $299(nz) landed. Used ebay to search then communicated directly with the bike shop from their site. I think I saved around $200 odd.

Then again I bought a hivis off Motomail and it was cheaper by $9.00.

Hi - He lives! Stormtrooper is back from "The Shire"! Must catch up soon bro

Anyway - I just got the fancy Flatslide carb for the DR from the states, total price was $523 NZ including shipping. I was pretty sure I would get pinged for GST and import fee's as it was over $400 NZ (but I have been lucky before with the pro circuit pipe)
I wasnt as lucky this time though and got pinged for GST on the total value plus an import fee of $25.30 and a $12 Biosecurity fee. Total was an extra $124.00
Still cheap for the carb though, even with the extras included - 1/2 NZ price I reckon.

The trick is to spend less than $400 NZ apparently (about $370 US currently)- or if you can get the shop to do it (procycle dont) get them to write a lower value on the customs ticket on the outside of the package

C'mon spend up, get the mighty KLR on (and off) the road again. Once this snow dissapears and the nights warm up a bit I feel a camping trip coming up

Took 3 days from Netherlands to Auckland via Germany, China and Singapore, then 4 days from Auckland to Motueka

It is $400NZ... the shiping cost is included..
GST is charged from zero..not just on the amount
    over $400..

    Heres what I do...
I import alot of guns/part etc..
where possable have the order broken up
& shiped a week apart... but keep in mine you
will incure 2 shiping costs..do the numbers well
it may end up cheaper to pay GST on one order...
If you fined something yer want..but the seller
    won't/dosn't ship overseas...
let me know..i can give you a link to independent
exsporter that will ship almost anything...

When I bought my safari tank back from oz in my luggage I was relieved to read that GST is only applicable if the total amount of goods in your luggage exceeds $700.
I have asked for prices from overseas vendors & most of them have a general disclaimer that they 'will not misrepresent total costs on the invoice or declarations so don't ask.'

Unfortunately big ticket items shipped straight from the vendor will prob be pinged for GSt so I now allow for that in my pricing.

Still waiting for my Acerbis tank from the USA. It has been over three weeks now.
The trace says it left USA on the 29th July, then nothing more. It is still en-route.
The total cost of the parcel incl shipping was $337NZD.
I bet it is here in NZ and getting sorted........Patiently waiting....NOT!

Yep seen afew hobbits walking around lately. Anyway the KLR is going through some major overhauls and will be back on track very soon Will post up some mods under the KLR thread.
Yep Gav camping trip has to be on the cards, still some new tracks to look at in the Grundys-Tompson track might have to go for a look when the weather picks up.

A box full arrived from Twisted Throttle for me today, $400 US including shipping but didn't get stung any GST. Arrived 14 days after placing the order. Also got a Scott Oiler of EBay cheaper than the manufacter website.
