    Once in every lifetime...

comes an opportunity not to be passed up.

We had one such today. One of our club members builds roads for a living and his latest one was the soon-to-be-opened brand new State Highway 18 at the end of the North Western.

It opens to the public next Saturday with traffic going live on the Sunday.

We had the chance to ride it today

Just us, no-one else, Brand new dual lane motorway, officially the smoothest road in the country (yes they measure that).

So we rock up this morning, the Armourguard guy unlocks the gate and awaaaay we go.

    Braap, Braaap, Braaaap, Braaaap, BRAAAAAPPPP.....

    whoops - rabbit

    whu-whoops - pukeko

whu! - unannounced lane marking crew

WHOA! - trespassing families (with little kids) on pushbikes meandering along

Told all and sundry to GTFO because we were turning around and coming back.

    Which we did

Everyone (including assorted rodents and blue chickens) stayed the fuck out of the way and we rolled - BIG TIME

Wrong way up the motorway, speedo pegged for k after k (prolly 4 - 5 in all but it feels like a lot when the front end starts to get all floaty).

    It was.... most excellent.

I was gonna post a video but didn't tighten the screws sufficiently for the forces involved and all I have is a blurry view of my headlight (camera on the front fender) as the camera got blown backwards.

So you'll just have to take my word for it.

    Yeehaw!

Hyuck hyuck - wot a wit

No video cos camera was not tightly screwed in - as it could have been. My fault, not cameras, or bikes.

Ze Victory speedo pegs out at 120............mph. I have no idea how fast I was actually going, could have been more or less than that.

It was, however, as fast as I COULD go, which has got to be fast enough

Sadly no burn outs. The deal was that we could not mar the surface, or the grass.

In other words, if we had binned we would have paid for the bike AND the road, which ain't cheap by all accounts

    Fortunately - no worries.

I think the best one was the new V-max that came with the keys to Meremere dragway.

Really? You get your own closed motorway with no speed limits? Awesome.

Yeah - don't you read the fine print. Closed road - professional rider. :-P

Couple of times on airport runways too. That's a buzz.

Yup I've read that before, but just considered it to be for 'legal' purposes. Time to start writing motorcycle reviews I think. I'll start with a review on a GSXR1000, K2 model. I'll call it a retro-piece.

Do it right and we'll pay you for it.
