Heading through to Haast today, spend a couple of days camping up the West Coast and back up to Karamea by Sunday, catch you then

While I should be on my 1st clutch pack at 20k I am on my 3rd (and went through two Rekluse units) so I believe it was clutch fiber oil contamination that was the cause of the running big end and oil consumption. The Rekluse clutch was/is such a nice system to ride with, but for strings of long days of fully laden riding in techy terrain there is just too much continual clutch slip no matter how the Rekluse is tuned. Needless to say I won't be installing one on this engine so should have a long trouble free run

    Have a great MMMMM mate
Good to hear you are back riding again, what oil do you run and how frequent to you do oil changes? After my recent stator problems, big end trouble would be something I would like to stay away from, what mileage should you get out of DRZ engine?

    Cheers

I have indeed, had a nosy up there on my 250, a really nice stretch of gravel.

I'm in the early stages of planning the repeat Mount Greenland trip for this summer. The aim is to structure it with good starting/finishing points for both the NADS and Christchurch riders. I'll put a thread up once the route is confirmed to give everyone plenty of time to scratch it in.

Ah, you've fallen into my cunning trap.
Have an ask around about the Chasm Track...

    Palmer Rd to Ikamatua...

    Public all the way...

Indeed, your plan worked and I have been busy doing a lot of homework

Palmer Road out to Ikamatua was a great route, with "was" being the primary work. At the Snowy River end the McVicars landowner is a nice chap and happy for people to go through however at the Palmer Road end there is a new land owner and the access has been fenced off and the land owner is reportedly not allowing access through. I will follow up on that, but I was distracted by this...

Regarding the Chasm Track (actual name Bulletproof Chasm Track), it's not very well known to adventure riders probably because it is one of the toughest 4X4 tracks in the South Island. I had a yarn with Paul (TrialsRider) for a good hour about this track. One of Paul's 4X4 buddies (Bulletproof) actually built the track, Paul has done it a number of times in his 4X4 and played a role in maintaining it/repairing it after major floods. To the best of his knowledge it has never been done by unsupported adventure bikes, Paul and I decided this just won't do so a trip is being planned. I am in the middle of organising winching gear and flotation devices as there are a couple of gnarly near vertical sections getting in and out of the chasm that bikes will most likely need to be winched plus crossing the Grey, a 50 foot wide bouldery river that runs at a minimum of 3 feet at normal flows (that has been known to drown its fair share of 4X4s) that we will have to float the bikes across.

Will be limiting the ride to 6 riders, there is a spot reserved for you should you choose to take on the challenge! Will follow up with more info through PM
