En route to Christchurch for Christmas, currently in a motel in Blenheim, came through Nelson, Picton, Queen Charlotte Drive, Port Underwood. Really surprised to see so few people on the road for this time of year.
Each time I go through the twisty section heading out from Hira I am continually impressed at how courteous the drivers are at pulling over and letting bikes pass.
Freaking awesome blast around Port Underwood Road, no traffic, I was the only one on the road![]()
I may have to retrace my steps tomorrow, it appears I left half my rear tyre tread behind

Nice pics man. Pop into the shop for a yarn if you end up retracing your steps XD
You weren't wrong about it being quiet. All the traffic is heading south =/
Managed to evade the rain all the way and find great riding weather

Yeah they sure did! The hire companies had ridiculous amounts of cars booked to go out on the 24th and 25th so we can blame them haha
Went for a spin down QCD on Xmas day but turned back at Ngakuta because it was more like playing roulette with cars on the corners than a relaxing ride. Made it out alive and the weather was awesome so no complaints.
Well done on avoiding the rain. It's been pretty hit and miss here over the last week.
