I just moved on from a 900ss ie that I had on Tm for over 6 months.... three offers of swaps that's it. It was dripping with Carbon Fibre and aftemarket goodies too.
Not too many cashed up buyers out there and over 240 Ducatis on TM last time I looked.....which is a few weeks ago as another guy on TM and me did a trade/cash deal. Worked out good for both...he has a modern( ish) sports bike and I have Triumph Thruxton that I'm enjoying a lot.
I can't see myself spending lots on a modern bike again as I'm used to classics that don't depreciate as much.
    Good luck with your sale.
DeMyer's Laws - an argument that consists primarily of rambling quotes isn't worth bothering with.

Then theres just the thought of dumping a mint bike and doing lots of damage.

    But I'm open to pursuasion!
I've got a 996 side fairings, made by 'Just Fairings' if you're after a set?

Also got a box of worn rockers

    How did you do that??

Is it just the two side sections? 996 or 998 style?

    Hi,

they are 996 style side fairings.
I've got the rest but am using them for the 998.

I could use the 996 faring on the 998, but first I would need to relocate the coils or cut away some of the air ducts.

    cheers

I'll have a think. Would prefer to get the whole set if I was to do that, but I may find the other pieces easily.

On another note, anyone know of any good race bikes going at the moment? Tardme has fuck all on it this time of year.

Here's another question guys. Do you think an R6 would be faster around a track than my 996, or an RSVR? Have been looking at pre-built race 600s but dont know if I would like the downgrade in power.

I wont be racing it yet (got the 250 for that) so will just be doing track days for now. Will I find it easier to go fast on than the 996?

Or would it be better to aim towards an 848 or 1098? (not too costly if bringing them in from the US).

My ZX6r would rip my old 996 and RSVR, you just have to ring its neck instead of relying on the torque of the big twins.

I think I could do that . So it was faster everywhere or just the corners?

Faster everywhere, the top end speed is about the same (the RSVR would have had abit more), but I found it takes longer to get there on the twins.

There is little horsepower difference between the 6 and the 996 and rsvr, but there is a huge weight difference.

Thats what I had expected. The R6 appeals to me as a good change as it seems if you keep them way up in the revvs then the speed you can keep is huge.

How about the torque though? Or is that redundant if you ride the 600 full on full time?

Your best bet is to go and test ride a 600, some people like the torque, I do miss it abit on the road (its good for lazy roll on overtaking etc). But I get my jollies from hearing the 600 scream at the redline, and changing gears keeps my left foot nice and skinny.

I dunno, the arse dyno is notoriously unreliable. I had an old VTR1000F that was kitted out with HRC cams, HRC carb kit, opened up airbox, full zorst, yada yada and took it in for a dyno tune. The thing felt slower afterwards than before! WTF?! Looking at the dyno curves and "before" had a huge flat spot in the mid range and kicked like a mothefucker once it cleared it's lungs at about the 7krpm mark. Fill that in and give it a much flatter delivery and it lost the feeling of the "kick" although it actually had more power everywhere.

The twins are also normally geared for the moon stock, which doesn't help. I seriously doubt my 916SP could have actually pulled redline in 6th. Shorten up the gearing and it was different story, transforming the bike. A Nichols flywheel, and 50mm full system just made a good thing even gooderer.

The old brembo's are still good enough with decent pads so you're stuck comparing peaky light weight vs grunty heavy weight.

But realistically, if you are starting out the actual bike is a much smaller part of the equation than the rider is. You could do like I did and pick up a high spec superbike and you will still get your arse handed to you on a plate (like I have, lol) by guys on far inferior machines. Just ride what you like and get stuck in regardless.

Well I do like the Ducati more. But for a track only bike to race in the future? I would need to spend about 5k on it to get it up to speed. Or a 600 prebuilt with everything for the selling price of the Duke....

Plus I guess at the end of the day I would prefer to go faster easier on a 600, if it were possible to do so.

Straight line speed I do like the twins and have not normally struggled to stick with 600s on track days etc. But I havn't really played around with any modified race ones so who knows.

Well it looks like it might be that time. The bike will probably be superseeded in a week or so and will be up for sale then. Anyone want a mint 996?
