New motorway (Auckland) Westgate to Hobsonville bridge.

This stretch of road is about to open. Temporary fences are being taken down and access is far easier at the moment.
    BEWARE!
Security is 24/7 until fully opened to the public. The lights are on at night so that security can keep a lookout over this stretch of very nice, smooth + fast road.

Each of the new bridges has been fitted with enforcement cameras, with one facing each direction! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

With a downhill gradient there will be plenty of taxes issued...

One of the biggest reasons the lights went on is the copper cables were being pulled up and stolen.

are you able to elaborate on this part in particular? are they just speed cameras or are they the new number plate recognition cameras which check wof/reg against the database, or are they simply there as added security before the road opens and only for passive monitoring once the road is operational?

They have cameras that do what? I didn't know they could do that, is that fairly new? my rego was out for two days a week ago glad I didnt come across them.

thanks for the warning though, I do see how smooth bits of road are very tempting in some ways, but I am sure there was more to their decision to light the place well than just aiding traffic cameras.

It's only a matter of time because this becomes more common.

In Europe, they OCR your plate on the first bridge as well as clocking your speed and the time of passing.

At a bridge a few Ks down the route, they also calculate your average speed and then ticket you for WOF/Rego/Speed.

You soon won't be able to get away with just slowing down for cameras.

I was informed that there was a form of "enforcement aspect" to the cameras, rather than pure monitoring.
I'm trying to find out if they are ANPR cameras.

Isn't that the new camera system on the desert road?

I believe George's original date for his novel was 1948. The hint here is that he was writing an extrapolation of what was already around him. Newspeak and double talk are commonly used, it is just that we call them spin, propaganda etc. Example statement would be, we will improve motorcycle safety, an example action is force motorcyclist off the road so there are a lower number of accidents involving motorcycles, actuality is no improvement in safety but stats look better

There's a lot more to policing than traffic bro, there will always be work.
