I went with a Yuasa in the end for a couple of reasons.
NV Motorcycles, where I buy my bits said that the posts on the Motorbatt are a little flimsy and could break? Anyway, as I couldn't see one, I went for the Yuasa as I have three connections on the posts, Bike, GPS and Camera hard wired. I have put in brass post blocks which increases the height and enables connection easier.
At the end of the day there was little difference in price. I will look at Motobatt next time.
    Thanks fellas....

I installed one of these on wednesday

it fits perfectly inside the airbox which means i'm able to remove the old battery box to saving a total of 2.1kg over the original setup

good service and at $133nz delivered from the us i felt a better deal than any of the more traditional style batteries.

Yeah I have been running one on my DRZ since I bought it and it works awesome. Hadn't started bike for 2 months and cranked up straight away the other day when I went to start it. Besides the weight saving that is probably the best part of it, will retain its charge for a lot longer than a lead acid battery will.

From the very limited experience I have with batteries and things, be careful. There's always a trade off. Old style jobs are fairly bulletproof. Gel batteries and fancier seem to have longevity problems. If left sitting unused for a length of time (6 weeks +), they shit out and you could be up for a new one (once fooked, they're permanently fooked).

If you're riding every day, or spend a lot of time upside down (that's why they're gel)....great.

So, if you buy a brand new battery and are not ready to install it due to the old one still cranking over okay with regular use, how long would you expect it to last sitting on the shelf? The acid has been poured, would it need regualar charging just as if it was sitting on a bike?
Come to think of it, how do batteries stay fully charged sitting in the warehouses at Yuasa? Is the filling of the acid, the final thing that gets done that makes them charged up?

They fill them with acid before they give it to you, then you take em home and charge them.

I once purchased a battery from a wholesaler and had to fill it with acid (supplied) myself. Fun times.
