BMW GS 650 Dakar - Service intervals

I'm looking at doing an African trip with my partner on a BMW GS650 Dakar or just the standard GS650 (roughly 2002 models) Planning to buy them in the UK and they seem to have about 35000km (Converted) Anyway, what are the service intervals and is any major work due soon? They have some nice ones for roughly $4000 (With panniers) that just need the tires to be changed and maybe the shock in preparation for the trip. I was thinking of getting a mechanic there to show me how to change tires along with the shock as those seem to be the common problems. Anyway, all help appreciated

my Freinds just rode around the world on these bikes, took them 3 years, the biggest issue was breaking the rear shocks and (mounts I think)

Hi. Service intervals on the 650 GS single are every 6000miles or 10000kms.

As for bikes, i've looked around and most problems seem to be shocks though you never know. I'm busy scouring the Advrider and horizons website for info on everything along with the difference between the plain GS650 and Dakar version though it just seems to be the wheels.

Your friends details would be great as i could possibly pick there brains on other things if they don't mind My partner can also get a clearer perspective on the hard trip ahead as she's still to get her full licence...........though she'll be riding way before then. Thanks for your help

Any major service intervals due at about 30 000 km's? I can do the standard stuff, but i want to do any major work before going.

wow, that website is really inspiring. I've been thinking of doing a tour like that. One day when i have the money I'll make sure to go ahead and ride across the world. What a phenomenal experience that would be.
